Discussion: Las Vegas Shooter Had Interest In Guns, Video Poker, Real Estate Deals

Law enforcement and family members could not explain what would motivate a one-time accountant with no known criminal record to inflict so much carnage.

Proving our gun laws are to blame. Without the guns the damage could not have been done.

Paddock spent his life creating nothing of value. He made his money on paper, spent it on gambling, and had no values benefitting society at large. An anonymous cipher who went out in a blaze of notoriety.

What is really frightening about this is it has been over 24 hours since the mass killings and authorities have absolutely no clue why he decided he needed to kill all those people.

He was supposedly a fucking millionaire according to something I think I heard on the morning news.

Money can’t necessarily buy happiness or sanity can it?

He’s not the only one interested in guns, or at least the money you can make from them.

How many gun nuts are looking at the coverage this asshole is getting around the clock and planning their own personal blaze of glory - mass shooters’ names and pictures should be banned from being shown when they do something like this.

I’m not saying this has anything to do with why Paddock decided it was a good idea to commit mass murder, but … a multi-millionaire who’s into guns, video poker, and real estate? He definitely fits the profile of Trump voter, if he voted at all.

Also, is it just me, or does Guns, Video Poker, and Real Estate sound like it should be the title of a Warren Zevon song?

Real estate speculation and casinos as a source of income?

Remind you of anyone?

Terminal illness?

Paddock didn’t seem like a typical mass murderer,… Paddock is much older than the typical shooter and was not known to be suffering from mental illness.

Trump: I think its time to deport all the white males to Siberia. They are just too dangerous for humanity.

I read about a cannibal couple in Siberia who may have had 35 victims. American beef ?

Just don’t send them to Kazakhstan

On Monday morning I awoke to breathless reports or a new record. The previous record was 49, but this new record is 50! The Chapman technique of turning an unremarkable life into an infamous one.

The whole ‘father was a bank robber’ story while obviously catnip to reports is a complete red herring to this crime. What does one have to do with the other? The shooter was not a professional criminal.

A family history of mental illness could be illuminating but that doesn’t appear to be the motivation for the reporting.

It’s now clear his brothers knew nothing about him.

Marilou Danley is the key to unraveling this bizarre story.

I’ve known a few people who developed gambling problems when the casinos opened up here.

You only hear about the wins and never the losses. No one ever talks about the losses.

Lots of really smart people have reduced video poker on specific machines to as close to a science as possible, but even assuming you played perfectly, your return is very small. Almost no one plays perfectly. That’s why those machines are in casinos.

In the general scheme of things not an overwhelming amount of money. I think the greater influence comes from the threat, sometimes implied, sometimes explicit, that if you are perceived as a potential vote for gun control (of any kind) we will primary you to death. Also the gun lobby is much greater than simply the NRA.

Yeah I think it falls right into the southern strategy of white folks protecting themselves for the dark folks.

" Las Vegas police said he had 23 guns at the hotel, including semiautomatic rifles, . . . "

It is clear from the audio of the shooting that he had at least one automatic.

Exactly! Compare this shooting to our first “tower” shooting at the University of Texas. The only semi-automatic rifle that shooter had was an M-14 with a small magazine.

Paddock never could have killed or even wounded 50 people if he’d access to only a bolt action rifle.

There is no reason for anyone but the military and maybe law enforcement to have semi-automatic rifles.
