Discussion: Largest Wildfire In California History Still Growing

CO and NM also have multiple fires. The closest to us in Cortez, CO is located in the Boggy Draw area 15-18 miles north of town in the Four Corners, started Sat., probably a camper origin. It is about 6-8 miles north of Dolores, CO. In approx. a circle of 100 miles radius centered at the Four Corners Nat. Monument site, we are experiencing “Exception Drought”, the most extreme measurement used by NOAA. We’ve had about 3" of rain in Cortez this year, almost no snow last Winter. Our only water source for our county, the Dolores River, could conceivably dry up and force us to move away to water somewhere, all 18,000 county residents. This is what happened to the Anasazi in the later 12th century A.D. when they abandoned the area for good and set up pueblos along the Rio Grande River 150 miles southeast in NM. The Utes and Navajos will stay here on the Ute Mt. Ute Reservation in sw CO and se UT.
