Kentucky, the Mammoth Cave of hypocritical religious intolerance.
On the surface, the judge’s argument that recusing himself - if that’s what this can be called - from hearing same sex couples’ adoption cases - looks like a good thing: he’s stepping out of the way so his personal bias will not affect the outcome.
However, judges are supposed to check their biases at the courtroom door and rule impartially. Allowing him to absent himself from these hearings would open the door for judges to absent themselves from divorce cases, abortion cases involving minors, and a host of cases involving issues that conflict with their personal beliefs/biases.
“Nance also sent a resignation letter to Gov. Matt Bevin, who will appoint his replacement.”
And his replacement will very likely be much worse. But I have to say I’m a bit proud of my state judiciary for telling this asshole that recusal isn’t good enough and for putting on the pressure to get him to resign. There are a lot of good and decent people in this state. Unfortunately, they all live in three cities.
The law of this land comes from the Constitution, not the Bible. No decent jurist would ever bring his or her personal religious beliefs into the public record. Good riddance to bad rubbish, and I certainly hope the disciplinary action continues.
He’s resigning? Why wait until December? Accept it immediately and be sure to let the door hit his sorry ass on the way out.
Hmm future KY Senator? Trump Judge? Fox commenter? His future’ s so bright he’s gotta wear blinders.
The response also lays out the judge’s objections to adoptions by gay and lesbian adults. It cites his “sincerely held religious belief that the divinely created order of nature is that each human being has a male parent and a female parent.”
Ya know, until god decides to kill one parent through cancer, or a car crash, or an endless war, or maybe those people aren’t fit to raise a child, or dumps the child in the street…
Moron.
You know, a single woman who obtained an abortion would be fulfilling this requirement, by not bringing a child into the world that didn’t have two heterosexual parents lined up to care for it as God requires.
I have another idea…we should assign fathers and mothers immediately to all children who only have one parent currently. Otherwise we as a nation are in contravention of God’s law, right?
And wait…orphanages don’t fulfill God’s parenting laws either…
Such dilemmas…
Hey, I know — let’s put a guy who thinks LGBTQ folks can’t be a part of any family in charge of Family Court! What could possibly go wrong?
Good riddance to an asshole.
