Discussion: Kobach's Last Ploy To Thwart Dems In Kansas Senate Race Dealt Big Setback

Discussion for article #227987

Yea, I bet a revised ballot could be sent out on weekends, Sundays, from a college campus, mailed, whatever as long as it doesn’t allow people greater access to voting.

So do we know anything about when Orel Senior registered as a democrat, since his son is a republican campaign staffer?

Why didn’t you include in this article the fact that the “registered Democratic voter” is the father of a Brownback campaign staffer?

“Orel’s son, Alexander Orel, is a field director for the re-election campaign of Republican Kansas Governor Sam Brownback, campaign spokesman John Milburn said.”

Seems to me this information is central to understanding what is really going on in Kansas: The Republicans are willing to do anything (including dirty tricks and voter suppression) to win elections.

I’m sure his Democratic registration is a ruse in order to get standing to file the bogus lawsuit. These guys aren’t even trying to hide what they’re doing.

From what I’ve read of the law, it simply says what entity shall have thte power to select a replacement; it doesn’t say they must appoint one.

I think the KS Supremes are losing patience with K.Kolbach’s reading comprehension.

Yes - and the Democrats are wisely returning politics in kind. Normally I find this kind of technical politicking distasteful, but in this instance of bald political technical glitch grandstanding by the GOP, good for the Dems in handing it back. Good for the goose, good for the gander.

Face it Kobach. You got beat by the LAW that you hypocritically say your job is to uphold.
Eat it.

The Kansas City Star is reporting:

The ballot now offers voters a choice among Sen. Pat Roberts, a Republican, independent Greg Orman, and Libertarian nominee Randall Batson.

Just more proof that when this racist fuckwad and the rest of the GOP/Teatroll white fright puddle talks about “the integrity of our electoral processes,” they’re not using the word “integrity” in the manner that refers to the qualities of honesty, trustworthiness, etc. No no…what they mean by “integrity” is the structural strength and rigidity of their stranglehold over the electorate in question, which they fear (rightly so) is rapidly slipping from their grasping clawing hands as a result of demographic shifts taking away white majority.

Some enterprising young Dem in Kansas should file a petition to legally change his name to Don’t Vote For Me and then have himself placed on the ballot.

Kobach is seeing his political life go down in flame. Heir apparent to either Brownback or Roberts seats next time around. His name will be mud before losing his own reelection.

Ted Cruz, Karl Rove and Chris Christie smarts with a heavy dose of stupidity.

Icing on the cake would be Kobach losing his reelection bid

Correct. The law is there to stop a corrupt SOS like Kobach from preventing the party from replacing a nominee who withdraws. I don’t think anyone ever conceived of a situation where a corrupt SOS would try to force a party to have a nominee.

To be fair, i don’t think anyone imagined a scenario in which one party’s best chance of winning was to not field a candidate. And while i respect the Democrats’ short term ability to knock Roberts out of this seat, in the long term, this is a really terrible strategy.

‘Imposter Dem’ David Orel can just write-in Ted ‘Canada’ Cruz… or republicans can take their candidate off the ballot too, since they clearly don’t like him.

WOW! Yes!

Huge props to TPM for sticking with this story; it’s kind of like covering a fungal infection that flares up from time to time and refuses to go away.
