While not a smart statement, I would note that he was quoting someone else. So he should take heat for using a dumb quote, not making one up.

Even aside from appalling comments about uteri, it’s probably not a good campaign strategy to have surrogates who use “Lmfao” in tweets.

And yet, - AND YET - Madeline Albright’s comments were beyond the pale. But, an ignorant rapper who knows nothing about politics is supposed to have true insight.

By the way, who is this “Connie Rice” he refers to? Does he mean, Condoleeza Rice? Is he really going there? Ugh…

If you say something – without using quote marks or saying “I disagree with X when he said Y” – you’re showing full concurrence in what was said.

Valid point. As I said he should take heat for using it, no doubt. I just saw him on Real Time and he was pretty cool the whole time. This was a pretty uncool thing to say.

I still stand by my thoughts on this. Cynthia McKinney isn’t someone I would respect at all. She came across as being somewhat - uh, crazy during her time in the House.

Sorry no. He felt the conversation on uterus-owning people was worth having and he took the opportunity to broadcast the message. Hiding behind the person who said it first is sub-schoolyard ass covering. As usual Bernie completely out-of-the-loop trying to contain the needless vilification of his opponent. If his message is so great, stick to that.

Thanks @geofu54. I had the same reaction as @brooklyndweller, in that I initially assumed he was referring to Condoleezza Rice, but that made little sense in context. So, thanks for clearing that up.

I’m guessing it comes up pretty frequently for Constance Rice. Which sucks, because she sounds like someone who would not at all appreciate being confused for Condoleezza.

I worked with Connie Rice in Los Angeles in the 70s. We never discussed her party affiliation but I doubt seriously she is a republican

I think the point is that a uterus doesn’t disqualify you either. If you’re an advocate for social justice you should take that approach. Being Black doesn’t qualify the guy for being president. The issue is it’s not supposed to, in a socially just country, disqualify you.

He’s not too bright.

Damn. I just re-read this whole piece again and I realized that either Elliot or Killer Mike gets it wrong. (Why am I not surprised…) What they were trying to say is that having a uterus doesn’t entitle you to be POTUS. Neither having a uterus or a scrotum qualifies anything. Man, this whole situation was messed up from the jump.

I’ve seen Killer Mike on many talk shows, including Bill Maher. He is very much behind BLM and other progressive causes. He is smart and articulate. I think he goofed here, but Sanders is pretty smart overall, I think, to have Killer Mike backing him.

I don’t get this personal denigration of Hillary by this guy and others who act like their candidate discovered “social justice.” Where was Killer Mike when Hillary was taking political punches in the Halls of Congress for health care reform in 1994? Whatever one may say about positions on issues, and reasonable people can differ on which candidate would be better for the progressive cause, Hillary has been in the front trenches having GOP grenades hurled at her for decades. The worst anyone can do is pick up the unexploded GOP ones to see that these hit their mark.

Yeah Bernie’s Bros are so proud of snagging Killer Mike - they talked about it nonstop for a week. Because everyone listens to rappers for their political opinions.

I don’t know anything anymore except that Paul Krugman and I are really worried.
