“The 1 percent that we spend on diplomacy and assistance, if we spend it wisely, then the expectations are that the men and women that we love so much in uniform are less likely to get into a hot war or in harm’s way,” Corker said.
But dropping bombs is sooooo Red white & blue!!!11!!!1!
Once in a while these people seem to snap out of their hypnosis and rediscover the simple humanity that most people have. You can’t, a normal human being can’t, be face to face with people who’ve been starved or brutalized and argue you should withhold easily given help because I’ve got mine Jack. You don’t have to be Gandhi to feel that way. Good for him, though. I hope he’s successful.
It certainly would be good (and interesting) for this Republican senator to persuade his colleagues, both Republicans and Democrats, to change the law so that food grown anywhere and shipped under any flag would reach these people quickly. One can always hope!
That’s true, but sadly, Trump and Mulvaney are not normal human beings, nor are many of their die-hard followers.
The World according to Trump:
If you were not born rich and never had everything handed to you, it is not my fault or my problem.
Foreign Aid is EXTREMELY unpopular, of course.
"Without U.S. leadership, these people would have no hope,” Corker told The Associated Press in an interview. “I think Americans, if they saw what I see here, and I see in other places, would be glad that our country does what it does.”
Perhaps put some video of the suffering on cable news. Maybe that will get Trump to change his mind on humanitarian aid … or launch some cruise missiles.
And yet Trump is not fat enough.
Matthew 19:24 — you remember that one in the Bible, don’t you, Don?
We need to cut foreign aid to pay for Trump’s Wall and his perpetual golf vacation at Mar-a-Lago.
Diplomacy is what adults engage in.
Firing missiles at empty air fields is what an ego driven man needing validation does.
What is wrong in seeing that destitute refugees get food and shelter? I think that is money well spent.
Donald’s current fantasy is riding in the Queen f England’s gold encrusted carriage. He wants … nay … is demanding a ride with the Queen down the Mall in London.
This strange man is needing validation and a soothe to his ego.
He has zero self awareness.
Imagine… trump has a personal fortune of probably $3 billion (I am guessing)…he could easily fund America’s aid program for Africa’s needy personally and never miss it. But no, he instead wants a ride in a completely garish carriage.
I am heartened to hear this from Senator Corker – it’s a positive sign he really is capable of empathy for those unlike himself who are suffering.
On the same note, I implore the senator to reach out to his fellow Americans who are suffering in various ways or who are just aged, disabled and poor but rely on such good programs as Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid (as well as food and utility assistance programs) to live a comfortable life here in the States.
Thank you, Senator Corker, for taking the trip to Africa to witness for yourself what good things we do for virtually pennies.
Make sure the video shows lots of children. It’s been reported that children activate a compassion gene in Trump. Who knew he had such a gene?
the most garish carriage in the world
Fixed it for ya.
He doesn’t. What he has is a flaccid attempt at a boner when 'vanka is around and she was the one who was upset over the dead babies in Syria.
And, for what it’s worth, after 8+ years of outrage and accusations about President Obama, at best, not being a “real” christian and, at worst, a secret member of the Muslim Brotherhood, I’ve not heard a peep about PeePee never attending church, golfing instead every Sunday. Not a single fucking peep. No feigned moral outrage, just standard christian hypocrisy at its finest.
Put your money where your mouth is, Senator Corker, and how about worrying about hungry children in this country?
It really is ugly, isn’t it?
I believe that we can do both. IMO, it’s not a zero sum game and that both can be provided for proportionately. What little aid they get doesn’t take away from Americans here. What little aid they do get is part and parcel of foreign diplomatic policy which is vital.
