Discussion: Keith Olbermann Says He's 'Retiring From Political Commentary'

Olbermann was the one of the few voices that seemed to share my own sense of outrage at the Feeble-Minded Lying Orange Urine-Stain in the White House. I will miss his commentaries.

Well you canā€™t say he didnā€™t give it his all during Wā€™s years. And in those days the GOP was less overt (in a plausible-deiniability kinda way) in its being the racist, stupid party, and fox news was less obvious in its role as GOP party organ. We needed him more in the 00ā€™s. But Iā€™ve missed his comments recently.

I enjoyed his video series on Trump, though Iā€™ve fallen out of touch with it recently. Worth a watch - his outrage is cathartic.

Iā€™m not so certain. Congress will never impeach unless they feel their seats are at risk.

If there were an election again todayā€¦ Iā€™m not so certain Trump wouldnā€™t be re-elected. He brought the hate, the bigotry, the anger, the fear that he promised.

I see next to nobody that voted for him expressing any regret or remorse.

Keith will be missed.

We need him now more than ever.

He so reminded me of Murrow.

Drumpf: I keep on winning. All my enemies are disappearing without me lifting a finger.

Whatever is emerging, this Americanism of Bannon and the alt-right, as a model for social organization, itā€™s nice that some people donā€™t accept its imposition without a fight. The problem is that there is a huge inertia from an unengaged and ignorant populace and some very rich people with very bad ideas who play off that. One can rant, but in the case of the US, there is the drawback that 1 in 5 adults believes the Sun rotates around the Earth.

The Untied States of Ignorama.

Hey Olbermann, where do you think you are going? There is NO quitting until the last indictment is issued and the convictions are upheld! Take a few weeks of R&R, get your head on straight and report back out to the front. Lord knows we need to train up all these Never Trump recruits - you are perfect for the job. Victory will be glorious.

I think about 80-90% of the people who voted for him would vote for him again. But I also think a significant number of people who stayed home or voted third party would go vote or vote Democratic. Weā€™ve got to stop worrying about what PPā€™s base will or wonā€™t do, and instead focus on the Democratic base. Thatā€™s what was done in VA to great success.

Uh-huh. Right.

Dudeā€™s ā€œretiredā€ from political commentary more times than Cher retired from touring.

I believe I attended the first ā€˜last tourā€™ of The Who when Reagan was POTUS. Olbermann was born to this stuff.

He will be sorely missed, fo sho! I sure hope his prediction comes to pass (& swiftly). The Resistance was awesome, and I thought it would have enjoyed ā€˜staying powerā€™. He was also damn good on ESPN.

Listen, I ā€˜knowā€™ Keith is no day at the beach as an employee/coworker. But this makes NO SENSE. If he thinks the GOP-run House and Senate will impeach and convict THIS guy he has not been paying attention for the last year. This is ā€œnotā€ the time to give up the fight.

So I donā€™t get it at ALL.

Thereā€™s zero reason coming out of the Democrat Party to motivate people to vote. People are really good at false equivalencies and theyā€™d be just as intent to watch it burn as they were last year. Trump would win again as a result.

Sadly the only victory, if it happens, will take place in November of 2020 . . . assuming he isnā€™t reelected (which I would not assume at this point).

All this hope that prosecutions and/or impeachment proceedings will come to our rescue is just making wishes. We have to face up to the reality that, barring a miracle, heā€™s probably going to be President until January, 2021. If we want to make sure his Presidency doesnā€™t extend a minute longer than that, then the Democratic Party had better cough up a candidate next time around who, God willing, can beat him. Frankly, Iā€™m not that optimistic.

A very sad dayā€¦ I always liked and respected KO as an excellent commentator, analyst and broadcaster. I was surprised he did not get picked up by someone for a regular show after he left MSNBC. I thought for sure someone would snap him up ā€œcheapā€. In fact, I thought HBO would be smart to put him on 4-days a week as a complement to Real Time and a great way to build up their political viewership. Real Time is the ONLY reason I subscribe to HBO and it could be so much better. Anyway, KO is a great talent and a voice that is sorely needed. I miss him again!

My guess: He was contracted to do a certain number of these ā€˜Resistanceā€™ videos, and GQ simply didnā€™t want any more of them. His reps probably tried to move them to some other commercial venue and found no takers. Hence, his throwing in the towel once again.
