One more example of GOP hypocrisy. Transparency only exists if it is a Democrat seeking Senate confirmation.
Is it possible Kavanaugh has secrets to hide ? is there anything in David Pecker’s safe concerning Kavanaugh ? Inquiring minds would like to know. What are the GOP Senators hiding ? Where is Ken Starr when we need him to conduct an investigation ?
I’m quite surprised he didn’t express his opinion that the Dems, if they do take the House and Senate in the midterms, should immediately impeach Trump, which I hear so many of these politically naïve and uninformed people say all the time.
Listen - and I am one of about 700 posters who have stated this on TPM - it takes a simple House majority to vote for impeachment, but it takes 67 Senators to convict, and a Trump impeachment without conviction is like letting Charles Manson get off with a parking violation. If we could get 67 Dems in the Senate, not only would Trump be gone in lightning speed, the Republican Party would be on their knees begging for mercy. But at least for right now, that ain’t happening, except in some fevered dreams.
“Grow the fuck up.” Yes, Thunderclap. That sums up the whole thing quite nicely.
Contribution Limits ‘Have Some … Problems’
Yep, they do as we (REPUGS) haven’t gotten around to say that each dollar has a vote.
From Special Hell, Roy Cohn looks up, then at the seat he has reserved for his protegee, Donald John Trump – right over the fire – and cackles.
Technically, he has no conflicts. His interests lie entirely with the current Republican agenda of giving everything to the powerful few, and crushing all opposition. In that sense, there is no conflict at all.
(I apologize if my sense of gallows humor offends anyone. It would appear that Kavanaugh’s nomination makes us angry, as it should. We should use that anger constructively. I am no great fan of Schumer’s, but let us not just attack our leadership with fantasies of what they can actually accomplish. We need to support candidates that advance our interests, help to fund their campaigns, make calls and knock on doors if we can do that. This time, it isn’t just rhetoric. This election really is important. Trump isn’t listed on the ticket, but he is there just the same. Let’s give him a real headache.)
This is my fix, each and every dollar publicly noted. No hiding behind 3rd parties, PAC, etc. If this was the case then donate as much as you desire, just be willing to say that you have. Never could understand people hiding, if your ideas and convictions are that important that you desire to spend to get like folks elected then why is it necessary to hide.
And that problem only grows worse if we get a new SC member who can see problems with limits on donations and doesn’t express concerns about unlimited donations.
Yes, this may well be a variation of the “Shock Doctrine” in action.
When the Fake President is finally disposed of, the People (around the world, not just Americans) will be so relieved to have TrumPutin gone, they’ll accept a lot of anti-democratic behavior on the part of the government, especially if it’s sugar coated with patriotic platitudes, dramatic trials (“Getcher “reality TV” on NBC, CBS, CNN…!”) and a heapin’ helpin’ of faux health-care reform.
the GOP is a corporate&Russian-controlled party, more evil and treacherous than most Americans could have imagined; and the “opposing” party is weak, flaccid, and also owned by corporations, though not Russia (directly: check ownership of powerful corporations). This is the perfect recipe for the “Shock Doctrine” ghouls.
Interesting times, indeed!
As long as political outcomes in society are determined by whoever pumps the most money into the candidates’ (or candidates’ campaigns) we have a problem.
Publicly funded elections, strict oversight and control by the FEC with severe punishments for rich people who try to get around the rules. Strict enforced laws regarding lobbying. HUGE fines and long jail terms.
It wouldn’t result in a fair and democratic situation, not with human beings involved! but it would be a lot less corrupt than the current situation.
Thanks to Citizens United.
How could one undo that?
As long as we act like our 229 year-old non-democratic Constitution is not utterly obsolete we have a major problem.
But because the Constitution was specifically written to preserve and protect the power of wealthy white men, it is very obvious that campaign contributions limits “have some constitutional problems.”
Of course, a campaign contributions limit amendment could be added to the Constitution, but the wealthy white men in power would never permit such a thing. They won’t permit anything that diminishes their power to be added. End of story.
Huh? No, getting a different Supreme Court would be far easier. Of course, you know thata
Don’t engage him.
You’ll regret it.
I heard Senator Hirono call the R-led Congress “gutless wonders” and it stuck with me.
Nah. Kavanaugh getting confirmed is the least issue of a woman’s right to choose.
It’s going to get worse for many other ways to screw way more Americans going forward.
you’re right, of course.
I was just referring to the trollery you were responding to.
It’s like jumping into a black hole.
