Discussion: Kasich Pledges To Sign Bill Banning Abortions In Cases Of Down Syndrome

Discussion for article #240763

Just wondering: Do Republicans give a damn about any babies after they’re born?

And if the parents don’t have the money and resources to take care of such a child, then what? I have NO DOUBT the state of Ohio provides no resources whatsoever.

THEN what gets to happen?? The ubiquitous “and then a miracle happens”???

That’s what Tapper asked right after his answer, right? I mean, he couldn’t possibly have just left it there, that would be irresponsible.

Why is this a surprise? Today’s GOP candidates must oppose abortion for pretty much any reason. This is only one reason. But I hope the press keeps asking about other reasons so we can see the sum total heartlessness.

It’s easy to make promises when you know they have absolutely no chance of becoming an Amendment to the Constitution. That’s what the Republican Establishment has been doing for decades now and why so many of their base can’t stand them any longer.

It’s good to see that Kaisch has opted to run as the Washington Insider he was for nearly 20 years instead of as a Trump Outside the Beltway candidate. Either way he got into this thing too late to attract the big Super Pac money Jeb ! did but with way too much time left for the electorate to check out his failed fiscal Congressional record.

Promise us something you can actually deliver on like Carly’s 30,000 more American jobs outsourced to communist China, Johnny.

Of course they do – it they’re white kids born to conservative families who will never need for the candidate to give a shit about them.

Actually, I can’t even find this quote in the video. Anyone have the patience to watch through the whole thing?

  1. How would the state of OH know?
  2. If this was in the 1st trimester, would the law not run afoul of Roe v. Wade?

Republicans would reply by saying, “The Lord Will Provide”…

Nothing will happen except that the child and the parents will be condemned to lives of poverty, inadequate medical treatment for the child, inadequate school resources for the child, and possible abandonment.

I am well aware that many children with Down’s grow up to have wonderful lives, usually a result of having stable, loving parents and adequate financial or social service resources to face the challenges that they will inevitably face. I am also all to aware that absent those factors, many end up impoverished, ill-prepared to take care of themselves, too often institutionalized, and facing an early death.

The choice of whether or not to give birth to a child, whether or not Down’s is an issue, is solely the province of the mother: Not the state of Ohio, and certainly not Governor Kasich’s

I take it it’s still legal to have an abortion if the child-to-be doesn’t have Down’s, which just makes all the hell kinds of sense.

That is an unconstitutional law.
The govt(MEN) cannot start micro-managing our reproduction.

95% of people who get this diagnosis choose to terminate and unless millions of people are murderous a-holes, this is a personal family decision.

As soon as someone proves this God exists, we can change all our laws, no problem, but no one can so they really need to but out.

The slide down the slippery slope continues. Next, he’ll want to ban abortions if the mother is genetically female or perhaps any abortions attempted on a day ending with the letter “y.”

They would even care about fetuses if they weren’t such cash cows.

@Helen8

Abortions are not supposed to be conditional which would be the case in Down syndrome fetuses (or taking it further the sex of the fetus). The bill will be challenged and it’ll be a right wing nightmare. But for now shame on the women hating, fetus loving pols who like the occasional Latina room cleaner.

My wife and I had our first child when she was 37, our twins at 40. We tested for Downs each time, and were absolutely going to terminate if the diagnosis was present. Children without such terrible issues are difficult enough. We had no interest in bearing or raising a Down’s child. How dare these fucking assholes interfere with the difficult job of being a parent?

“Look, I’m a governor. I’m a CEO…”

And you will never have to worry about supporting a special needs child with a debilitating condition like DS, so STFU and grow a soul.

So the bible fundamentalists want to make it mandatory for women to carry to term fetuses with Down syndrome.

So, what are women to these people? Subordinate baby incubators??

This is why I will never, ever vote gop/bag as long as I live!!
