Discussion: Karen Handel: 'I Do Not Support A Livable Wage' (VIDEO)

Can Trumpp please fuck this up for her like he does everything else.

Georgians have got to want a little hope and change.

georgeh isn’t a new poster. I may be wrong, but I think I remember him from TPM’s disqus days.

I’m sure @mattinpa would attest to the fact that you can produce a commercial in half an hour, but taking the whole evening makes for better results.

Good/Cheap/Fast choose any two. This is a law of physics throughout the universe.

Seriously yeah, that statement’s a messaging gift from the gods. But a kickass producer would set it against a foil that would really make it all the more telling. Saw a video about an effort to do fair-trade garment manufacturing practices in Bangla Desh back in the spring that showed the actual life folks lived. The simple point was they were real people, living real lives, and they deserved a modicum of dignity—decent, nurturing day care for their children, a humane environment for everyone, just what we’d think of as common decency. Enlightened awareness of our interdependence. Handel believes in the law of the jungle. We like to think at least some of us have moved on from there.

Well he answered first but he could have come back on her hard and just repeated what she said with disbelief. But it’s easier from the sidelines to see opportunity. I thought his answer though was wafer- thin. She certainly appears very beatable. But that doesn’t mean much.

My, my now that was a really dumb thing to say.

Ah, but she’s a Republiscum so that explains all!

I think you are partly correct on the tribalism label. There is little equivalency though. Most Democrats I’ve been around have voted for a Republican sometime in their lives–though I do live in a deep red state. Democrats here are often issue based more than party based. On the other hand, Republicans hold fast to party, even when speaking of specific issues such as health care, the economy, and foreign policy–their views are often center left, but they would never, ever vote for a democratic candidate no matter what. They don’t realize their views are center left, and when told that it’s always a conversation stopper. I know–abortion, god, guns, and gays. I’ve been able to get several to admit that they done really care about gays, support gun background checks and closing gun show loopholes, and are a little conflicted about abortion (but only when they have had three or four glasses of wine.) Is this representative of any other region? I don’t know.

What does all this mean? Fuck, I don’t know. I’m just a bit loopy from new overly powerful meds and needed to talk.

About a Georgia election…?

Goddess, I miss the real world.

Is it body shaming to point out, looking at that picture, that sometimes people get the face they deserve?

To be fair to Handel, in the 6th district of Georgia there are more people paying minimum wage than there are earning it. If it wasn’t for Trump, Handle would be winning by a mile, pious wingnuts like her were in high demand.

Btw, how will small business owners survive if people don’t make a “livable wage”?

So stupid. Trickle down is a myth.

While I agree politicians should state their close-held views much more transparently,
no, she does not deserve kudos for basically telling the poor working class to eat shit and die.
(pardon my french).

The Germans don’t think so. They even have a word for it

Backpfeifengesicht

German compound word for a ‘face that should be slapped’

When GWB smirks on TV, my German friend Uwe tells me that he sees a ‘Backpfeifengesicht’.

Small business owners don’t think people should earn a “livable wage”, their employees are happy to be part of the family. Besides if they pay them more, they will only buy more expensive phones.

Not george. All too familiar.

Anyway, new members probably.

He answered first? Okay. Not nearly as bad.

It’s not the minimum wage that’s the problem. It’s the business owner’s operation plan :smiling_imp:

new members probably

Even the current comment system shows georgeh has been a member since 2014, so not exactly new. Could have been a variation on the username. I remember someone, not darcy, who had same style and content on the disqus comment stream. Not completely sure of the name, though.

To catch the attention of the self-centered, Democrats should point out that everyone’s taxes subsidize the non-living wages paid by big business - because employees make so little that they qualify for food stamps, housing and utility assistance, etc, etc, etc. and businesses like WalMart even help direct their employees to local charities for additional assistance - food pantries, etc.

People that lack compassion for low-income workers would probably care when they’re made to realize they’re being played for fools by billion-dollar corporations and their wealthy CEOs.

Politics makes for strange bedfellows, but with enough support we will finally be able to achieve a living wage nationwide.

I googled it and … you weren’t making it up. You know, considering your rep.
