Ethics shmethics.

Rightā€¦ And itā€™s up to whoever makes committee assignments to recognize the conflict of interest and correct it. That he brags about it is reprehensible.

ā€œI am not a lobbyist,ā€ he said. ā€œI already said that I was likely going
to be working with a nonprofit. ā€¦Itā€™s a policy arm of Focus on the
Family, and Iā€™m helping them as a director, not as a lobbyist.ā€

Reminds me Natā€™l Lampoonā€™s radio hour Watergate Tapes: ā€œThis L. Patrick Gray of the FBI. Now I know Iā€™m in there, and if I donā€™t come out, Iā€™m coming in after me.ā€ā€¦

Meanwhile Don Seligman sits shackled in solitary confinement. SMH

Good God, heā€™s such a dumb shit that he is actually parading his corruption. Amazing!!

Itā€™s pretty hard to say. We thought we had a real chance last election, only to find ourselves steamrollered. Now thereā€™s still more disfavor against the Gov and Legislature but also more thorough voter disenfranchisement. The Dem Party is noticeably more active, but the voting numbers have to be there and they keep chopping away at the numbers we do have. We donā€™t even know if we have a state supreme court any more! We keep on keepinā€™ on though. And the next election wonā€™t be a midterm, so just maybeā€¦

Not much different than JP Morgan and Goldmann Sachs giving their employees a multi-million dollar bonus when hired by the Government. It reeks all around any way you want to look at it.

This maroon is so dumb he doesnā€™t realize heā€™s just confessed to selling himself out. Itā€™s kind of amazing just how much hammering stupidity runs through the modern GOP. Itā€™s like a reverse IQ test. They only elect nitwits.

ā€œI have just so many options that Iā€™m considering right now,ā€ he told the Wichita Eagle. ā€œOne of them is a nonprofit has approached me, but that doesnā€™t mean necessarily that youā€™re leaving the Legislature.ā€
ā€¦
Ah hellā€¦who needs ethics anymore?
Would one of those ā€œoptionsā€ you spoke of be a term in Jail? By God it ought to. Well this is Kansas so I guess not.
Question: is it legal in Kansas to be in the legislature while advocating for an outside company for pay?
From my perspective as a non Kansan, it seems to me that lobbying for a company while a sitting elected official is nothing if not at the least a conflict of interest. But then reality may be different in Kansas.

Apparently things are always different in Kansas.

I think this is a fine excuse to come up with a new word in English that describes this sort of epic weapons grade stupidity. But this is pretty egregious so I donā€™t know where to begin.
edit
Are there no laws about legislators lobbying while in office in Kansas?

Is this guy dumb and brazen or brazen and dumb?

My local state senator is an artist who has a small company. He has constructed some public art structures for the City of Tucson. But he would not lobby the legislature concerning anything to do with his area of employment.
This Kansas fellow on the other hand is broadcasting that he will talk up this ā€œnon-profitā€ in the legislature and do things the average lobbyist does but because he will be working for a non-profit he thinks ethics arenā€™t involved. That is how I see this and I think this is a clear conflict of interest worthy of getting tossed out of his office.

Rev, I was so cheering for you folks in Kansas ā€¦ for moments it looked good for moderation, if not dems.

I personally will keep cheering for a state that once had Kathleen Sebelius as governor.

How relieved are you that you live nowhere near Kansas?
I mean, even Dorothy took a leave of absenceā€¦

ā€¦state Rep. Brunk went on to say,

Yeah, I took a few souvenirs from the State Houseā€“just the usual stuff, took some pens, stationary, some printer toner, a two of those high-end executive chairs the legislature purchased last year, some cleaning products from the janitor station, three laptops and a couple of iPads. I have to keep my options open yā€™all!

Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.

So, using this person as an example, if I were an elected Kansas state lawmaker and got hired by Planned Parenthood to sit on their board of directors in the capacity of legislative affairs ā€¦ there would be no problem? Everyone in Kansas cool with my new arrangement?

Answer: Dumbly brazen and brazenly dumb.

Rev, for what it is worth: You are in my thoughts and prayers. (sorry).

Seriously, though, I always try to remember there are a good many good folks like yourself who are very negatively affected by these types of brazen assholes. I am truly sorry for you and folks like you. Virginia used to be very stubbornly red as blood. Sometime about a decade ago, the people here started seeing the light ā€“ that, and large numbers of outsiders started settling here and brought with them viewpoints that were more modern and rather urban and inclusive. I believe that at this point, the only thing that will save Kansas will be large numbers of outsiders who donā€™t hold such backward viewpoints and who wonā€™t tolerate activities like what this asshat is openly doing. Good luck and peace be with you.
