Why wonā€™t they let her speak? I for one wonā€™t be watching.

1 / The Official NFL POV must be that the family might put a turd in the punchbowl. Wouldnā€™t want reality to get in the way of the party.

2 / Official NFL narrative: Great player and guy J Seau! What a pity he is dead! Wonder how that happened?

Ainā€™t that some bullshit.

This is all kinds of bullshit. ALL LEVELS OF BULLSHIT.

NFL wants all the publicity and all the accolades of posthumously inducting him, but they donā€™t want anyone who might even hint at their complicit behavior in the injuries that are believed to have led to his untimely demiseā€¦even though the family is pretty clearly on record they had no intent to say anything about it.

I certainly am in no position to tell Seauā€™s family what to do and how to handle this. But if it was me, and my family? Iā€™d be very loudly and very openly boycotting the ceremony, and making sure everyone in the media knew why. But Iā€™m petty, soā€¦

NFL stays failing.

It was Mr. Seauā€™s career of bone-rattling hits that we celebrate today with his induction into the NFL Hall of Fame. That is his great on-the-field legacy that we enshrine.

The adage: ā€˜The cover-up is worse than the crimeā€™ ā€“ comes to mind.
The Seau family owes the NFL nothing-- particularly after this dose of disrespect.
If I were the Seaus? I would spill all to any media outlet that would air it-- in early-September-- to have the controversy be the central theme during opening weekend of the NFL season.

I was a typical NFL fan until about 10 years ago.
But Iā€™ve been soured by hypocrisies such as this.

Now I enjoy ā€˜footyā€™ (soccer!)-- where players have control of their own destiny-- by way of being able to choose what team they wish to play for-- based on their ability.

The NFL now sucks for me too.

They should show up to the ceremony but when they get into position they should each place a large piece of tape over their mouths. That picture would be worth ten thousand words at least.

Must. Protect. The. Brand.

Everyone here has said what needed saying. One more thing. Goodell is an idiot if he thinks not letting her speak means he can cover up what chronic traumatic encephalopathy, or CTE is. Stifling her speech will not stop countless others from talking about it on news and sports shows. Traumatic brain injury found in dozens of former football players will continue in present and future ones unless the NFL removes its collective head from its ass.

I thought Pete Rozelle was the ultimate autocrat. He couldnā€™t carry Goodellā€™s scepter.

This is such a perfect idea that I hope it eventually trends well enough on social media to become a reality.

It is disgraceful. He was such a great football player

The family may actually say something important about the relationship that the NFL had with players that is ā€œless than favorableā€.
