Discussion: Judiciary GOPers Sign Letter Saying They Won't Hold Hearing For Obama Nom

Yes, it’s hard to understand the republicans’ logic unless they think that starting the process makes it much more likely that someone gets confirmed. Of course, I’d love to think that this will absolutely backfire, but the intertubes seem to be filled with self appointed strict constructionists who have no idea what they’re talking about.

The Republicans are permanently de-legitimizing the US Supreme Court, in their fit of pique. this vacancy was President Obama’s to fill; no one else’s. Even if we inaugurate President Clinton or President Sanders in January 2017, that will be a different person, making a different choice than would President Obama. The Supreme Court will be viewed as the product of an illegitimate process.

And letter signing has worked so well for them in the past. Too stupid to realize they’re leaving a paper trail for both present and future condemnation?

They’re Republicans. Today, that is synonymous with, “They’re delusional.” At least I hope they’re delusional. And the current map and polling suggests you’re closer to correct than they are.

This a post which should be read and appreciated. The fact of the matter is that people rise to the level of expectations. To give excuses as to why people living in Daddy’s basement can’t “come out” to vote (when this vote, long term, could lead to student debt forgiveness by a Democratic Congress–that would get them OUT of the basement) is stupid. For me and anyone else who accepts this slack behaviour.

A key phrase, in my past paragraph was “long term”.

And that’s what apologists for lazy people use. “They can’t see any difference” “It takes too long” I don’t buy it. People enter higher education with the idea that the reward is years in the future, Same with other endeavors which are a lot harder than voting.

So that takes care of the sluggards. It does little for the “perfect-is-the-enemy-of-the-good” ideologues (and maybe, for this cycle, that’s Bernie’s job, since he contributes mightily to the problem in this cycle).

The MSM and those who worship it? Well… just use it for a bulletin board of the opposition (which is not all bad…judging by what they are trying to sway you into thinking, one gets a picture of what the GOP and the 0.001% wants).

If Democrats can’t get their constituencies to vote out the most racist organization in the last 85 years from power–this during an era with the most diversity and the most acceptance of diversity in history–then it is us who are Brain Dead, more than any of the people on the Right we deride. In my opinion, it has zero to do with Baggers, the GOP Noise Machine.

It’s us.

That’s quite a sparkler Grassley’s wearing there.

Frame this alongside the letter they signed and sent to the Iranian government, trying to undermine our President’s attempt to negotiate a treaty. These people should be tried for treason, and punished accordingly.

I do NOT want a SCOTUS Justice by recess appointment, but this should signal President Obama that he can and should fill every remaining vacancy in his administration and every single lower court vacancy via recess appointment.

If the Republicans want this fight, let’s fight it on ALL fronts, not just the Supreme Court.

Where is the Bundy militia when you need it? Shouldn’t they be taking over the Supreme Court from the federal government and getting it back to the people?

The punishment for treason is death. There are other avenues to take. Like donating to the Democratic Party.

I can understand this from the Repusive Party hacks on this committee, but I can’t see them having much collective iron in their spines if the Democrats refuse to discuss anything else until the actual election.

From now on all Democratic Congressmen should refuse to discuss any item or issue but this. There should be a daily Senate Democratic news conference to remind that "We are now in the 200th day with the Repulsive Senators refusing to abide by the US Constitution and continuing to obstruct the twice-elected "President.

This should become the Bengazi of the Democrats.

Grassley looks like he is from that special place.

I think the Republican’s real strategy is to stonewall like this until after President Obama nominates someone, then make a whole bunch of fluff about holding hearings, only to stonewall on a vote… it’s their version of ‘bipartisanship’.

Why not do both?

So much for “oaths” and such. Can these assholes be sued for dereliction of duties?

PLEASE let me wake up tomorrow to find that the military has been ordered out to Capitol Hill, has taken all of the Republican Senators into custody under the charges of TREASON.

Sheesh. Are we a Banana-fucking-Republic here? What about the rule of law?

Perhaps the mood of these “distinguished” senators will gradually change. The cause? Well, we will get some pretty interesting rulings from an 8 judge court. After a few of those rulings piss off conservatives (say, for instance, Obama’s plan to reduce carbon emissions that Mitch McConnell personally advised governors to challenge, or maybe a 2nd amendment case ends up with gang of 8, and who knows what might happen without Crazy Nino). In fact, the further we get from Scalia’s death with regard to the actions of the supremes, the more clarifying it will become.

Continued GOP perversion of our Constitution. In 2017 the GOP is going to be howling like never before. I will just say, STFU… America spoke. They said FU GOP.

That is a great find, and it is something I have been thinking for some time. Congress routinely uses “without objections” to pass motions when they don’t want to waste time voting. So, votes are not required for action by the Senate. This would be an obvious use of that same method on nominations - the President is asking if the senate has any objections. None being offered, the nomination becomes an appointment.

And Obama will be her nominee
