Discussion: Judge Orders Marshals To Seize Sheriff Joe Arpaio's Records

Arpaio is a gross incompetent. Be it unaccounted funds, sitting on hundreds of rape kits, pink underwear stunts, birther loon investigations or needle in the stack racial profiling in the guise of policing. Go next door to Pima county where Sherriff Clarence Dupnik is in charge. The guy is a consummate professional lawman who enforces the law without fear, favor or showmanship.

This is grrreat news for John McCain.

If Arpaio has to turn over his records, we will get his evidence that Obama’s Hawaii birth certificate is fake. The 2008 election results will be overturned, and we finally, finally, will see honor and dignity restored to the VP’s residence:

Obama’s fault!!!

Change is Obvious With New Sheriff

Phoenix – Just four weeks into the term of Maricopa County’s first new sheriff in 23 years, it is hard to miss the obvious changes in the department. Perhaps the easiest change to spot is retirement of the famous pink boxers and cartoonish striped outfits on the prisoners.

Prisoner J.M. Arpaio models the new garb for Maricopa County’s inmates.

Now Now Now… Let’s be cautious here. It is possible that the good sheriff is completely innocent. We should give him the benefit of the doubt (“innocent until proven guilty” … and all that stuff) and let him face his accusers in a court of law. If he ever decides to pack it in and change careers… I think he should run for Governor of Maine. They could use a gentler hand up there.

Amateur Mafia Don Joe Arpaio is learning that you don’t eff with a judge without consequences. My fingers are crossed that Joe will step over the line far enough that the judge will gavel his ass into jail on contempt charges. He should be made to eat the swill he feeds prisoners for a few weeks.

and the slow, inexorable destruction of the Organized Crime Syndicate known as “Sheriff Arpaio’s Department” grinds on.
You can screw with local and state judges in Arizona, but you fuck with a Federal District Judge and you will get burned.
“Hoisted Upon his own Petard” comes to mind…

To all Taxpayers in Arizona:
Whether you are pro Arpaio or against him, it’s time to face the facts that he is a horrible manager of his department. Claiming no knowledge of orders to conceal, destroy or have items withheld from a court, he is essentially using incompetence as a defense. Whether intentional or unintentional, he is costing the taxpayers of Arizona more than he is worth. Lawyers are not inexpensive.
There are many potential replacements for Arpaio nationwide, who are more capable of running an office which the citizens and other police departments can trust and be proud. We deserve better than this guy.

Agreed!

But, you know joe, he has done this kind of thing before and walked away free as a bird. Although his pal County Attorney Thomas, lost his job then got disbarred for their shenanigans last time they pulled this.

Maybe this time will be the charm.

As an old white guy?
Can’t help but despise most old white guys.

The judge also focused on the agency’s refusal to turn over 50 hard drives from Arpaio’s secret investigation involving the judge."

Investigating the judge? Investigating everybody except the one that needs investigating; HIM!

If we are fortunate. we’ll be seeing Feds seize the sheriff for the purpose of putting him on trial…he’ll likely be using the insanity defense…belaboring the obvious as it were…

“Five years ago, the agency acknowledged that its officers had deleted emails on the sheriff’s immigration patrols and destroyed officers’ records of traffic stops.”

Forget policing Maricopa County. The questions are 1) Who’s policing Arpaio; 2) Are there not any real crimes that occur there NOT by police, stuff like murder and sexual assault; 3) Is there so little that happens there that Arpaio has time to expend resources on Birther “crimes” Arpaio imagines a nonwhite president and non county resident has committed; 4) Should an apparently certifiably insane nut job sheriff be permitted even to carry a gun?

Right. Then instead of imaginary Birther crimes he can focus on he mundane challenges of prison life, like this one:

Yes, but investigating real crimes committed against Maricopa County residents is for legitimate cops who find physical evidence, bruises and DNA that match the victims’ statements. Investigating imaginary “crimes” outside the county that are hiding under “smoke and fire” is like chasing unicorns if you are a cop who is into fantasy… Besides he probably thinks that child victims of rapists are sluts who ask for it, since he has a very active fantasy life.

I want to see a serious audit.
[/quote]In the defiant siren declamation of 1960’s anti-hero The Prisoner (Patrick McGoohan), “You won’t get it!” This would depend on local elected administration, and as Wikipedia reminds with an example, Every Republican presidential candidate has carried Maricopa County since 1948.

“I am sorry your feelings are hurt”? Seriously, judge? You’re going to apologize to the attorney for a client deliberately stonewalling a legitimate discovery? Grow a pair, man!

Federal marshals don’t give a grunt or a piss what a sheriff wants.

Actually, that’s “hoisted by his own petard”, not “upon” it.

A petard was a smallish bomb used in centuries past, when fuse technology could be dodgy. If the petard you were throwing at the enemy went off prematurely, you would be the one “hoisted” (i.e., blown into the air) by “your own petard”.

Please forgive this moment of vocabulary obsessiveness. It’s a sickness.

Shakespeare has the cure:

There’s letters seal’d, and my two schoolfellows,
Whom I will trust as I will adders fang’d—
They bear the mandate, they must sweep my way
And marshal me to knavery. Let it work;
For 'tis the sport to have the enginer
Hoist with his own petard, an’t shall go hard
But I will delve one yard below their mines
And blow them at the moon.
