Discussion: Jon Stewart Gets Standing Ovation After Ripping Congress' Treatment Of 9/11 First Responders

But he was the one person with the power to have taken Trump down and made him a laughingstock.

I do miss him.

The highly alkaline (pH 12+) cement dust inhaled by first-responders was the equivalent to breathing oven-cleaner. This was established by USGS scientists who were trying to figure out how much asbestos was in the dust within days after the event. But thanks to the issues with causation, agencies have allowed this cohort to suffer and die off without acknowledging what is killing these people. Would it be practical to put Congress in an oven-cleaner/asbestos-laced environment for as long as it would take to care for the victims and survivors of this exposure? If so, I donā€™t believe it would take long to give these people the proper treatment they deserve.

I miss the hell out of him. He was/is stronger than Maddow - and I really like her.

But, like Maddow - He was mostly preaching to the choir. I doubt heā€™d have had much sway over the FoxBots/Magats.

Naw, disagree. Weā€™ve got good thinkers out there, but he was perfect at the meme-length snippets that went viral.

The perfect foil for Trump, as his weakness is he hates being laughed at. Just think how things would be flowing over youtube, facebook and the like if he was still out there.

Would have made him look weak to his supporters.

Back before Anthony Weiner got into trouble:

Yeah, I know, everyone hates Anthonyā€¦blah blahā€¦he still kicked ass on the House Floor here and I wish Dems today would grow this kind of spine:

McConnell would probably attach a amendment for Kentucky coal miners and their owners because you know, they were really, really affected by 9/11.

Respectfully counter-disagree. In his own way Stephen Colbert was moreā€¦ invasive? Is that what Iā€™m looking for? i knew conservatives who loved laughing at Colbert. And most of them got the joke. But yeah, I miss the both of them.

Compare and contrast to the lame ass Denis Miller.

Isnā€™t that part of the challenge? Weā€™re breeding that energy out of the party, as the same self-indulgent and narcissist tendencies that make good politicians also make for egos that get them into trouble (see Clinton, William Jefferson)ā€¦

No, he wouldnā€™t have had any sway over them. In my parts, conservatives believed the worst about Jon, and probably still do.

I miss him too, but it was time for him to go. He wasnā€™t enjoying it anymore. Plus, heā€™s doing much more important work now. That said, I absolutely love Trevor Noah (and his correspondents) ! I think heā€™s amazing, and brings a much needed perspective.

And it shouldnā€™t just be first responders that get help.

The chamber was empty because Jon Stewart isnā€™t taken seriously. He has a heck of a platform and a lot of support from 9/11 volunteers and first responders, but the House apparently doesnā€™t care enough because there arenā€™t enough voters among them.

Nancy mightā€™ve done something about this if she cared enough. She couldā€™ve scheduled this session and ensured nothing else interfered. And yes, the Reps are stupid enough that mama has to tell them when to show up.

This lack of compassion is appalling and I donā€™t care which side of the aisle youā€™re on.

Itā€™s long past time to stop labeling Jon Stewart a ā€œcomedianā€. ā€œSocial criticā€ is much more accurate. That he has an exquisite sense of humor is just the cream on the cake.

I had never seen that.
