Discussion for article #237786
To date, 45 people have registered an FEC Form 2 āStatement of Candidacyā with the FEC by at least one of the approved methods (including delivery in person or by proxy, by electronic filing or by snail mail) for the Democratic party nomination, and 55 people have registered the same form for the Republican party nomination.
Going thru the lists totaling 100 people, I donāt recognize even 30 names. Some guy name āRodeoā; someone else named āJusticeā; itās like FILING alone fulfills for some a dream.
FEC Form 2 has 2 pretty skeletal declarations about campaign financing plus one big obligation. Itās necessary for the registree to declare whether his or her campaign currently holds more than $5k or less than $5k, plus the same information concerning the campaignās official agent (or official agent of the moment, since that can change). And the obligation thereafter is to comply with periodic filings, mostly about campaign treasury receipts and outlays, with the implication being if the registree should fail to file THOSE without having withdrawn your registration in advance or without specific permission of the FEC to do otherwise, then the campaign is presumptively abandoned (subject to rebuttal for officially induced mistake or act beyond the registreeās control) and, if such further filings were outstanding at the time of withdrawal or abandonment, subject to possible regulatory investigation, action, penalty and fine.
Bottom line: this first filing is an entirely under-dramatic thing, with any hype being entirely left to the campaign or candidate. And with Trump, we can expect it to be exploited beyond any rationality. Itās the SUBSEQUENT filings and the commitment to comply with FEC deadlines for those which is most important. Letās wait and see if Trump actually bothers with any of those before leaving or being bounced.
As many have already gamed out, he can file extensions and push off actually having to show assets for the campaign until sometime around mid October. By then, the damage will have already been done and it still provides him ample time to walk away and prepare for his February show.
Thatās the whole point of this little fiascoā¦a PR blitz for the new season. And that sort of callousness is going to do horrible things to the republican campaigns. Trumpās only interest is in generating headlines, and there is no bad news for him, as long as he is making headlines. The really bad news is that he isnāt going to pull just the presidential campaigns further towards the crazyā¦he will pull attract the crazies down ticket too. āWell, if that bozo can do it, surely I have a chance at being a Senator!ā.
Stewart mentions, at the end of the bit, that Trump has recently finished second in a New Hampshire poll of Republican presidential candidates. Naturally, Iām curious who finished first, but Iām even more curious about what kind of slack-jawed morons theyāre growing up there in the Live Free or Die state.
HEY Donald show us the āCERTICIATEā to prove youāre qualified to run for President.
BTW, Jon can sing. Next stop, Broadwayā¦He could.
I know Iām just jealous because I donāt have much hair, but God damn what Donald has is so bad.
