Warner endorsed Democratic investigative journalist Leslie Cockburn

Good.

And needless to say, she’s better than any Republican.

She’s also the late Alex Cockburn’s sister-in-law, but that’s another story.

Now, if there are a few million other Republicans like Warner, the Republic may yet be saved.

This is happening elsewhere as well. A former Republican State Senator has not only endorsed Democrat Antonio Delgado in NY-19 but cut an ad for him.

“Country before party” may be critically endangered in the wild, but it is not yet extinct.

Could this be happening? Like the cartoons of our childhood, is Popeye reaching out… grabbing his can of spinach and about to administer a whooping to the bad bullies? Cue the music!

Sen. Warner was one of several Republican Senators, with whom I disagreed politically more than not, but seemed to have a strong grasp on integrity. These endorsements show he still has it - and is not afraid to make waves while he still can.

Ditto in Maine CD2. A republican legislator in Maine cut an ad with Golden endorsing him. They recorded the ad while drinking beer in a restaurant. Their choice of beer alone would make me vote for Golden if my primary residence was in Maine.

Does anyone need any more evidence that the GOP is not only moving farther right than most can tolerate but also into batsht crazy territory???

Essex village used in ‘appalling’ Trump candidate ad
A United States congressional candidate has used a picture of a British seaside village to show what could happen if voters do not back President Trump.

An advert used an image of Jaywick Sands, near Clacton in Essex, to attack Dr Nick Stella’s Democrat opponent.
Essex village used in 'appalling' Trump candidate advert

Jaywick was the most deprived neighbourhood in England in 2010 and 2015, according to the government’s deprivation index.

Since then Essex County Council has completed a £6.5m programme to improve the roads and drainage.

Paul Honeywood, Tendring District Council Cabinet Member with special responsibility for Jaywick, said it was appalling to use the old image for political gain and said the village was on the up.

He said: “I know that many Jaywick Sands residents will be outraged at being smeared in this way and rightly so.”

I didn’t remember that. Sadly, one of the others I admired from that era - sponsored Thomas (Senator Danforth). But thanks for the reminder about Warner.

In Kansas, a lot of GOP former governors and legislators are backing Democrats against Kobach and Watkins in particular

Sadly, there are plenty of areas in the United States that look like that. Don’t know why they had to use a photo of British town.

Why didn’t he endorse Elaine Luria, Dem, Va. 2nd district running against Scott Taylor of collecting fraudulent signatures on petitions fame?

Then-Senator Warner also refused to endorse Oliver North when he ran for Senate in 1994.

I assume he lives in Cockburn’s district and wants to limit himself to candidates on his own ballot…

So I guess Warner is an enemy of the people.
