You might call it a political campaign commercial.
Three yes votes for Barr worth remembering all day today:
Doug Jones
Joe Manchin III
Kyrsten Sinema
ETA: Clarification in light of replies: I simply find their votes annoying, since it was all but common knowledge that today would play out just as it is playing out. I get their political calculations in casting a yes vote, and I don’t think they need to be punished or primaried. I just find it an instance of the calculating taking these three to a place of looking quite bad in retrospect. Just wish ideology and high stakes had guided them to a different result. Still rather have them in the D column than see their seats go to the GOP.
Now we see where Melania’s anti bully campaign came from. Her poor little husband was so beat up by these Democratic and media bullies, that he just couldn’t keep from committing obstruction.
So, I guess obstruction of justice is okay if you get your feelings hurt.
What a coincidence! Tio Wally is not impressed by Jeffery Toobin.
Speaking of Doug Jones, I asked him about this at a fundraiser I attended just after Barr was confirmed. He told me that Barr told him that he would not interfere with Mueller and he would release the report. Right now, confirming Barr looks like a bad mistake on his part. If the Dems end up getting the whole report I think he can get by it, but a lot of Dems, even in AL, are going to conclude that he showed bad judgment on this issue.
The Trump campaign ought to be required to reimburse the Justice Department for the costs associated with this press conference.Although that brings up another issue - political campaigning on federal property is illegal, correct? Regardless, it’s crooks all the way down.
Yeah, let’s try to primary Kyrsten in '24. I’m sure ______________, who is to the left of her, is sure to win Arizona. I forget, can you remind me who ______________ is?
I forget, can you remind me who ______________ is?
Johnny Unbeatable.
If Barr made that argument to a court, the judge would be pissed at the bad lawyering on display in his courtroom.
Do Barr’s public statements as AG carry weight in a court of law? Can a defendant argue that Barr’s reasoning shows that he didn’t commit obstruction?
Your alternative to Doug Jones in 2020 is likely to be Roy Moore. You know- the child molester? The guy that got banned from the mall for creeping on teenagers?
I’m not advocating for primary challenges. Just saying their judgment should be questioned on this matter. I’m no purist, but their votes are nonetheless annoying.
That can be said of every member of Congress.
And you are posting just like a purist would do.
I donated money to Doug Jones and will continue to support him. I just think he made a blunder here and time will tell if the Barr chapter ends up being a 1 month distraction along the road to investigating Trump or something more lasting. He has to hope it’s the former, but no Dem is going to appreciate his vote for Barr. No one.
“Trump fights back!!” Is going to be the theme for the next phase of his tenure. Remember how, at noon, everyone thought Kavanaugh was done? And then when he came out pissed off and crying he “saved himself”?
White men “fighting back”, even if they are wrong, to appear tough and strong,is where we are. The tedium of this may be worse than the injustice.
Okay. Mea culpa. Still not a purist. And I didn’t collude.
No. It’s spin. Lawyers’ arguments in court do not have evidentiary value, except if the lawyer makes an admission of fact or law on behalf of the client.
In this case, Barr clearly considers his client to be Donald Trump, not The People of the United States of America.
I doubt he believes he could win in 2020. He seems to be trying to be as liberal as he can, especially on social issues.
