Is it possible that Trump is doing this with no intention of ever actually pardoning Manafort? That Trump’s afraid Manafort is about to flip and is trying to save his own skin by encouraging false hope in Manafort?
I am hoping that the Manhattan DA will insist that the Feds pay for the extra expense of transporting Mr Trump’s Very Unfairly Treated Friend from Pennsylvania Federal Prison to NYC for his court hearings and back. If I am NY I expect on the taxpayers behalf that the Federal Govt be forced to pay the bill. NY doesnt have to send a prison van and marshalls to PA and back. So, let Trump and the Federal Govt bear the expense, instead of Mar A Lago’ing NYC for the cost of his Royal Largesse.
If I were a conspiracy theorist I might wonder whether Manafort might accidentally be released from federal custody instead of transferred to stand trial.
It seems highly unlikely that Manafort will ever flip. I think he’d be more concerned about the Russians being “not thrilled” with him flipping, than he would be about serving “hard time” in Allenwood Low.
Disclaimer: I have not read the book, only seen the Karloff and Mel Brooks versions, but
From what I understand m-- and it’s certainly possible that I misunderstood – in the book, Dr. Frankenstein’s creation was actually intelligent, to the point of having philosophical conversations with at least one other character.
Which means he would have about 80 IQ points on the Traitor-in-Chief. So, please apologize to … Mary Shelley? Boris Karloff? I dunno, someone.
Well, when I first read the inaccurate headline on TPM’s story, that is exactly what I thought had happened. Bail means release on some kind of monetary security or your own recognizance. I don’t think even Barr can do that since Manafort is serving a Federal Sentence, and I am sure were the NY Court asked, they would deny bail. But until he maxes out on his Federal sentence, he is not getting “bailed out” or accidentally released by the Federal BOP who are very punctillious in their calculations of your time and any good time credit you might be entitled to. They have a back up location in Texas somewhere that takes several days between imposition of sentence and designation to a Federal BOP facility to make the calculation. Probably have a bunch of guys with crew cuts, wearing white short sleeved shirts with pocket protectors who all sit around and argue about decimal points and stuff.
Calm down, folks. One of the prime responsibilities of the number two person in the Justice Department is to supervise prison assignments. All part of a day’s work.
And I have a bridge to Brooklyn you might be interested in buying.
