Discussion: Jeffrey Lord Speaks After CNN Firing: 'I Think The World' Of The News Channel

Following a harsh exchange of tweets with Carusone earlier this week, Lord posted an article for The American Spectator on Thursday morning, calling Carusoneā€™s group the ā€œMedia Matters Fascistsā€ and casting them as ā€œanti-free speech bigots who, in typical fascist style, make it their mission to shut down speech they donā€™t like.ā€

So was he equally calling out those that called for Colbert to be fired for his TV monologue and attacked Kathy Griffen for her (albeit tacky and tasteless) ā€œjokeā€??? First Amendment and all, right?

You donā€™t need to stop speaking out about the First Amendment and other issues.

CNN doesnā€™t need to keep paying you.

Seems simple enough.

You can say it, but they donā€™t gotta pay it.

Correct me if Iā€™m wrong, because my understanding is a Fascist is a conservative.
All those who backed Hitler in the US were conservatives.

He said his ā€œSieg Heil!ā€ tweet was not an endorsement of Nazism or fascist tactics, but was meant to mock Media Matters and its use of boycotts of advertisers of conservative voices such as Sean Hannity, which Lord equated with fascism.

Nothing so fascist as a consumer boycott.

Who will protect the tender plutocrats from this abuse of power?

[Jeffrey Lord] called himself a ā€œFirst Amendment fundamentalist.ā€

Really?!? ā€œFirst Amendmentā€ of what? Certainly not the First Amendment of the US Constitution, as this asshole seems to understand very little of it, as demonstrated by the following remarks of his.

ā€œFrom my perspective CNN caved on the First Amendment of all things.ā€

The First Amendment of the US Constitution does not prevent private employers from firing you for saying stupid things.

[Jeffrey Lord] said his "Sieg Heil!ā€ tweet ā€¦ was meant to mock Media Matters and its use of boycotts of advertisers of conservative voices such as Sean Hannity, which Lord equated with fascism.

Itā€™s not fascist for a private entity, such as Media Matters, to encourage boycotts. If our government did it, then that would be a different story.

[Jeffrey Lord] said he had received ā€œa tidal wave of supportā€ from conservatives after his firing.

Good. I hope he drowns.

I do think this was a cheap shot by CNN. He should have been fired months ago for being a raging idiot who had nothing constructive to add ā€“ ever ā€“ to the conversation.

Thoughtful voices from the left and right provide balance. There are plenty of conservatives who come to mind. No one ever mistook Lord for a thoughtful voice and that is why he should have been fired.

There was a new women on the CNN panel last night that was at least as wingnutty as Lord.

ā€œIn April, he called President Donald Trump the ā€˜Martin Luther Kingā€™ of health care.ā€

ā€œIn May, he called Trump ā€˜the Rosa Parksā€™ of coal.ā€

ā€œIn June, he called Trump ā€˜the Mahatma Gandhiā€™ of tax cuts.ā€

ā€œAnd in July, he called Trump ā€˜the Anne Frankā€™ of gun rights.ā€

Yeah, heā€™s all for the first amendment, unless the proles are using it to hurt his buddies.

So, are all GOPers now taking up stand up comedy?
First trump
Now Lord
and lastly that NRA guy who said Lil Kim should Nuke Sacramento despite that there are NRA members there who probably arenā€™t all that amused by his ā€œjokeā€.

Thereā€™s nothing remotely ā€œironicā€ about obliging him to uphold non-Nazi publication standards! Deal with itā€™ā€™!

Lord did his thing, I was actually surprised they kept him on for this long after the election.

CNN is obsessed with the panel (aka Crossfire 2.0ā€¦on every show, cause it worked so well the first time!!) discussions, and therefore must keep a steady stream of whackadoodles available to participate.

Ironically, though I think his rhetoric about 1st Amendment here is absurdly over the top (it IS Lord, after all), this was a pretty lame excuse for firing the guy. I suspect it was a mutually agreed exit, and this just gave Lord a little publicity on the way out the door (and in his circles, this is good publicity).
