My thoughts go immediately to the golfer Payne Stewart, who’s private jet crashed when apparently they lost oxygen and the pilots passed out. Their plane just stayed on course until it ran out of fuel. RIP to those involved, and my sympathies to those who loved them.

Can somebody please correct the headline? The jet did not “crash on the island,” it “crashed in the ocean … 14 miles northeast” of the island. I’m not just being pedantic, it is a completely different story. The odds of a plane with an unresponsive pilot happening to crash on an island are much smaller than a plane crashing into the ocean somewhere near an island, and saying it crashed on the island suggests that there was some deliberate act - either an unsuccessful attempt to land, or a suicide or attack.

This is very sad. It highlights two things the first being what a progressive society we live in where a plane is able to keep flying without the aid of humans until it is out of fuel. The second, being how, despite of our technological advancements, helpless we are to assist in situations such as these.

Seriously, TPM? C’mon, I’ve been a long time follower and Primate…I was concerned we had a military pilot unresponsive that crashed based on the headline and photo. How about we represent the nature of the article more accurately, eh? You’re better than this.

Oh, what the fuck is Obama doing now?
OK, I know this is probably a stock photo, but can we get the photos to at least marginally resemble the story they are supposed to be illustrating? The plane in question is a private single-engine turbo-prop, not a military fighter jet.
Or if it’s actually a photo of one of the search planes, can there please be a caption describing that?

Two F-15s shadowed the plane, hence the photo of the F15. The headline is more off than the photo.
It also happened to a Boeing 737 with 121 people on board.
If the pilot had had a gun on board this wouldn’t have happened.
