I mean that āor we empower a strong peaceful resolution on Syria and get the Arab nations who are not supporting ISIS (clandestinely, and Iām looking at you Saudi Arabia) must work in concert to eliminate them and the ridiculous schism between Shia and Sunni at the root of all this strifeā is magical thinking.

There is a reason for the old saying āMoney is the root of all evilā. Yes, follow the money, and publish the name of every donor and every bank that laundered a donation. Maybe send a drone after the top ten ISIS funders, since they are at least as guilty of facilitating murder as the thugs on the ground.

Not in this case. Money let people with murderous intentions communicate, train, buy weapons, rent cars, and everything else that facilitated the mass murder. They were not motivated by the love of money, they were motivated by religious intolerance.
