This is what attacking them over there has wrought.
Papi Bush thought he cut a fat hog by doing his quickie war in Iraq and he didn’t get to be President again. Littler, dumber Bush thought that he’d cowboy up and go get those varmints before they announced and completed another successful attack on his watch. The cowboy plan didn’t work, go figure. Saddam is coming back from the grave on two generations of Bush. Daddy didn’t win, he just started a long term hatred of Americans in the last place that he should’ve. Junior made sure the hate was set in good and deep.
Sending in soldiers won’t mean any less death, in fact it will give these murder happy idiots exactly what they want, Americans to kill.
This is an Arab thing and there not only is no military solution, there is no Democratic solution. We can help but the fight isn’t ours and unless we Nagasaki them, there is no end.
Of course. Because ISIL is a state just like Oklahoma and those that are performing the cutting off their heads slowly executions are acting on behalf of ISIL state officials.
Every war is a war of choice. What you are confusing is the justification for choosing to go to war. So according to you, we have no choice but to go to war with ISIS. What should that war include? Ground troops, carpet bombing, joining pro-Assad ground forces, etc…?
It won’t be any consolation to the families right now, but the strength and dignity of both Foley and Sotloff in the face of their unspeakable fear is remarkable and a true testament to their character and commitment to real journalism.
Not sure how pointing out W.'s fake war in Iraq to root out 9-11 planners in Afghanistan so that all of the Middle East would embrace democracy makes liberals evil.
If we ‘do something’ (read: send troops and more) about these crazy cowards, we’re going to be in Iraq (if not Syria as well) for a long time. We crush these bugs, they’ll be back as soon as we leave. I’m for making this Iran’s headache with us in support (maybe we can even come to realize Iran isn’t Nazi Germany, or at least doesn’t have their will or capacity to take over large sections of the world). It really does bug the living shit out of me that we keep talking to the assholes that fund these groups and not the assholes that fund their opponents.
The purpose in both cases is identical: to instill terror. In the US, it’s to instill terror in people of color. Note well the number of executions now known to be of people who were innocent.
One need only look at the racially disparate use of capital punishment in the United States to be assured that its primary application is as a tool of racial terror. We are not as different as we might like to believe.
Yes, and I happen to agree with you, actually. But I want to point out that in addition to state sponsored killings, we also have lunatics with truck bombs that we managed to raise up in our own country. It makes me sad to see all the focus on Islamic fundamentalist killers and so very little on our homegrown whitebread thugs.
A lot of peace-loving people I know are ok with us fighting the Islamic State, though we first need to do what the Bush admin failed to do: come up with a strategy that includes how to win the peace afterward, and ensure a transition that won’t leave a major faction with an incentive to do this kind of thing again.
I think the Saudis, Qataris and Kuwaitis have realized the fire they’ve allowed to rage may consume them. They need to get their billionaires and clerics under control before it’s too late. They need to cut funding for extremism and cut off the black market for ISIS oil.
