Discussion for article #228076
Well this is interesting . . . if true.
I have noticed a lot more homeless in the subways here in NYC who, oddly enough, look a lot like undercover cops.
The point of terrorism it to create fear. Mass casualty attacks are effective but difficult. Leaking false information about imminent attacks is easy!
Thank the flying spaghetti monster I live in DC yo.
Yes. The "Imminent Attack"by “Foreign Fighters” was uncovered just when the US was about to give Iraq some more money.
Hmmmm, coincidence? I think not.
BTW - Were the “Imminent Attack” details wrung out of a guy with a car battery hooked to his balls? Who will say ANYTHING to make the pain stop?
I thought so.
Nice of Iraq to toss bone our way. Where is Rudy911 when we need him?
Sheesh. Loose lips, bro.
gotta ramp up that fear-mongering… and it’s so much more enticing coming from an actual mooslem
Yeah…sorry, but I’m not buying this, because it too conveniently works in the favor of Iraq. They need our help right now and the threat of ISIS conducting a major terror attack on the West [which I seriously doubt they have the capability to do] would go a long way in turning public approval towards delivering that aid. Unless and until something solid comes out of the US State Department , I’m not getting myself too worked up.
I don’t know anybody outside the intelligence community knows if this threat is true or not. The State Department spokeswoman says it hasn’t been independently confirmed. That said, it is the kind of attack we might expect from terrorists so it has to be taken seriously. ISIL will do something retaliate. The question is what.
JesseRodriguez: NBC News: Agencies have not yet found evidence of any specific plot against the NYC’s transportation; are checking Iraq PM’s claims
Yes, and all major organizations have stated that Iraq’s security forces aren’t very sophisticated and don’t have much credibility.
Look, as bad as ISIS/ISIL is, they aren’t magicians. They cannot attack the US unless they get their guys into the US. There need to be informants taking pictures of every single person fighting with ISIS and those have to be compared with facial recognition technology at every entry point to the US and Europe and anywhere else these guys might hit. And surely all that NSA technology can identify these people by their phone calls, Email, web activity etc.? If not, we’ve wasted a HELL of a lot of money on those useless buggers all these years.
By the way, I just read Morten Storm’s book. For those who don’'t know him, he’s a Dane who became a radical Moslem, then became a spy for Danish, British and US intelligence who infiltrated Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula and Al Shabaab in Somalia. A very good read and well documented.
It sounds scary. Maybe we need to go fight Iraq’s wars for them. And shower them with ca$h. Anything to keep us from wetting ourselves.
Who provided the information? Q Ball?
Its crap and we all know it is.
It seems as though words have lost all meaning. “Imminent” should mean something like the baddies are in the taxi weapons in hand, just 10 blocks from their destination. Intercepting a Skype call about that contained certain trigger words is not “imminent” by any stretch, unless of course it was made from inside that taxi.
Too bad Iraq’s intelligence apparatus couldn’t detect the imminent attack by ISIL on the entire northern quarter of their country!
Now that would have been some useful information! Maybe the Iraqi army could have, ya know, fought back if they knew they were going to get attacked.
But, thanks for the heads up, guys. Keep trying!
This could be true but it also could be completely made up propaganda designed to terrorize the American public into favoring US ground troops in Iraq to relieve the non-existent Iraqi army of any responsibility for defending their own country.
They don’t need to get into the United States. All they need to do is radicalize some malcontent who is already here.
I take it you are not from Boston?
