Discussion: Iranian Media: Washington Post Reporter, Three Others Freed

Never mind foreign policy, marby. Can’t they think for a moment about this most joyous, wondrous turn of events for the captives and their loved ones?

Here’s the really telling thing: “mainstream” Republicans are now closely aligned with the hardcore, bitter-ender clerics and Revolutionary Guard Death to America types in Iran.

I disagree. Now Republicans will simply blame the prisoners for being in Iran in the first place, and then they’ll complain that Obama traded the most vicious, prolific terrorists of our time for some two bit, hack, liberal reporters who we should hang for treason anyway.

Some grudgingly stupid commentary/‘reporting’ going on now on MSNBC…Ron Allen actually corrected himself when he said WH officials “were working tirelessly” [on the hostage release] changing it just after he said it to “they would say that”, implying a nonexistant churlishness to Obama officials.

That is more or less precisely the talking point that they are putting together this morning.

But I still took a small amount of pleasure thinking of Ralph Reed this morning after his faux indignation last night on Bill Maher. Of course, its tempered by the fact that Reed was actually trying to talk Mahrer down from his “I hate all Muslims” BS routine…yet again.

Bill, when Ralph Reed is the voice of reason…you have seriously gone off the deep end.

Premature…your media and GOP international watchword.

My guess is they’ll say:

“He gave up 7 and we only got 4! That math just doesn’t add up, Mr President!”

Richard Engle, at first and seemingly unaware of full details while on the air, sounded crabby he was standing in the rain with “no one” at his location…

Were it not for Maher’s extreme islamaphobia and his outright bigotry toward religion, I would still be a loyal viewer. I used to watch Real Time in real time, but now I only catch it on very rare occasions. It’s a real shame he can’t see how far he’s gone.

I was watching little Joey Scarborough this week complain about our unwillingness to get these people released. I’ll be interested in watching him spin this negatively against the Obama administration come Monday.

And another thing. Joey was outraged that our soldiers were “embarrassed” (they had to kneel down and put their hands behind their heads) by the Iranians when they were captured earlier in the week. Memo to Joey: We, and every other country do the same thing when our/their waters are entered illegally. We don’t board their ships with cheese, crackers and a bottle of wine and party until the wee hours of the morning. What a friggin’ dope little Joey is.

That in addition to his comments about Ambassador Stevens made me ill.

p.s. I will never forgive him for making me think that Ralph Reed was right…

There’s still more to this ‘incident’ than meets the eye, or I’m a pundit’s uncle…

“Can’t they even for one moment celebrate a successful foreign policy maneuver just for the good of those prisoners???”

No. Next question.

You are correct . . . . the right is making the numbers comparison and Trump is using the phrase “a disgrace” to describe the process of the prisoners’ release. The number is actually up to 5, and I thought maybe 5 to7 was close enough for Republican math, but I am not really shocked that the R’s are dissing this diplomatic success.

I say :gift_heart: to all who have the sense to regret their ill-conceived rhetoric, although belatedly.

Left to your side we would be at war now over the incident and some one else’s sons would be dead not yours and your war mongering ilk! God bless our President for keeping his cool cool head AND his sense of humor at his foolish ill advised Republican “friends” of the american people.

“The way they always do, by simply moving the goalposts.”

You’ve got it. And that’s what Hillary (or Bernie) has to be ready for–to bring the discussion back to reality, and not to let the GOPhers hijack the debate.

Glad to see Amir Hekmati’s name on the list. I don’t know much about him, but he’s the former Marine who’s been held a long time, and has been reported to have had very serious health problems. It sounds like this move might save his life.

Yes, just like with Bergdahl – they went from we should pay any price to rescue this brave American prisoner of war to he’s a piece of shit deserter, got some of our guys killed while they looked for him, we should have left him there to die yadda yadda …
