Discussion: Intolerant Acts Surge In UK As Brexit Result Sinks In

Please remind me. Which side won World War II conquering racism and fascism?

This is turning into Drumpf’s wildest wet dream — wilder than his dream of boinking his kid!

Hey Brexit supporters, it really sounds better in its native language: “auslanders raus!”

I do not relish the thought, but I believe it is going to get a lot worse for Britons. I am really sorry they are going through this. This is an active learning lesson for us Americans – though the two countries are different in size–both geography and population–and we have different governing documents with their accompanying rights and responsibilities, we are still a lot alike. I believe the Brexit vote was egged on by the Murdoch-owned media. FOX Entertainment, WSJ and his other media outlets will do the same here, basically – they will have Trump’s back. Thoroughly disgusting, but that’s the way this is likely to play out. Our other media outlets have an opportunity to help here – stop it with the false equivalencies, dig into Trump and his family’s business tactics and report on them … and don’t beat around the bush, be straight forward with the people of America and the world. When the American public is actually paying attention and being properly informed–without the scaremongering, false equivalencies and creating a horse race when in fact there is none–they can make some pleasantly surprising (informed) decisions. Seriously, come on, CNN, WaPo, LA Times, NYT, Christian Science Monitor, USA Today, Miami Herald, Dallas Morning News, ABC, CBS (yes, you!), NBC, AP, Reuters, McClatchy – all of you, please inform us!

What’s happening right now in the UK doesn’t have to happen here. Thank you.

@beattycat BC, I hate to suggest naivete on your part, but we’ve done pretty well in the xenophobia department ourselves for quite a while. Statue of Liberty declarations notwithstanding, nativism is alive and well (unfortunately) here. It would be otiose to enumerate even a recent list of incidents; we all know them, and many others that haven’t achieved national notoriety.

I support your appeal to our better angels, but it is a tough row to hoe.

Hope those Trumpsters who are not old, white and male take note of this and re-think their votes. You back bigoted, racist people, you get stuff like this…a pertinent warning for November.

Thank you. I know. What can I say, though – I had a few moments of wishful thinking and hope. I personally will step up if I ever witness these kinds of attacks.

As a few on my Twitter feed have noted, a “protest vote” is still a vote. All those who aren’t, as you said, “old, white and male” now have to live with what they ended up agreeing to.

Things are gonna get a whole lot worse before they get better. The racists and human trash of England that voted for Brexit are going to find that turning their country into an isolated backwater isn’t going to bring them any more jobs OR any less immigrants as the ones who are there are going to pretty much stay there. Quite the contrary, they’re going to lose jobs and go into at least a mild recession.

Note: The article indicates that the intolerant acts are happening in England specifically and not Great Britain.

Spot on. Also, not voting is a vote. I know a couple of otherwise highly intelligent people who are “Bernie or bust” and still flatly refusing to consider to vote Hillary. You don’t have to love a candidate – someone is going to be the winner, better make sure it’s not the lunatic.

And many in England are finding out that the big promises turned out to be fool’s gold.

A lesson for us on many, many levels…

An Eastern European family in Rugby finds dog excrement shoved through its mailbox. A Londoner nearly gets into a fight over drunken slurs shouted on a crowded subway car. A Polish teenager in Gloucestershire is taunted with threats of deportation at her high school.

So, living in Great Britain is no different than living in the United States I take it?

TPM:

“I’ve never, ever, ever encouraged or condoned behavior like that, and I never, ever would,” said United Kingdom Independence Party leader Nigel Farage …

Bullshit.

You encouraged bigotry and hate every time you used anti-immigrant sentiment to sell Brexit. Hell, anti-immigrant bigotry was the raison d’etre of Brexit.

Of course it led to an outpouring of hate, insult, vandalism, and violence - you knew it would.

Last September, the Ukip leader announced there was a “dark side” to immigration and that London was suffering from a “Romanian crime wave”.

He also suggested in an interview with the aforementioned James O’Brien that he would feel concerned if a group of Romanian migrants moved in next door. When questioned what the difference was between Romanian and German migrants, he said “You know what the difference is”.

He then blamed that outburst, which was criticised as a “racial slur”, on being tired.

In an interview with LBC radio's James O'Brien, which has since been described as a "car crash", the Ukip leader referred to a recent train journey he had taken in suburban London (one of the most multicultural cities on the planet, which also welcomes over 16 million tourists a year).

"It was a stopper going out and we stopped at London Bridge, New Cross, Hither Green. It was not until we got past Grove Park that I could hear English being audibly spoken in the carriage," he said. Presumably forgetting that his German wife probably speaks German when calling her German family back in Germany, as Mr O'Brien pointed out.

"In scores of our cities and market towns, this country in a short space of time has frankly become unrecognisable," Farage told his audience in Torquay. "Whether it is the impact on local schools and hospitals, whether it is the fact in many parts of England you don't hear English spoken any more. This is not the kind of community we want to leave to our children and grandchildren."

By their silence, the Republican Party and Donald Trump still believe they can harness and manage fascism.

[LONDON (AP) — An Eastern European family in Rugby finds dog excrement shoved through its mailbox. A Londoner nearly gets into a fight over drunken slurs shouted on a crowded subway car. A Polish teenager in Gloucestershire is taunted with threats of deportation at her high school.]

In their haste to rachet up xenophobia, the GOP, MSM, Trump and all the merchants of American Destruction amped up the white card.

The white card places an umbrella over so many of the people that Britain is now calling “scum”. People like Southern and Eastern Europeans, who, here, are happy to vilify those who are not “white”.

People whose ancestors were decimated by Adolf Hitler

The con always works, provided the Mein Kampf Playbook is invoked. The reason it had not worked in the United States previously may have had something to do with the fact that Rupert Murdoch was born in the 20th Century, not the 19th.

And with Trump now “pivoting” and hiring a “communications director”, all the MSM needs to do is Follow the Playbook So so so much that people simply cannot learn and thus turn bounty into madness.

The people who will elect Trump are those who are much more determined to vote than most Democrats** and who are not prone to learning lessons.

** Democrats include too many flighty people whose counterparts in Britain ACTUALLY VOTED FOR BREXIT TO “MAKE THE (VIDEO) GAME CLOSER”. Here, these are the people who would vote for Trump (or not vote at all)…cuz Bernie said Hillary is Hitler.

‘I’ve never, ever, ever encouraged or condoned behavior like that, and I never, ever would…’ Um YEAH Nigel…you lied to your fellow citizens, you engaged in blatant BS, you ran to the microphones the morning after the vote and SAID oh oops…I didn’t MEAN to lead you on but no, none of this stuff is true…and you didn’t SEE that racism and bigotry would rear it’s ugly head? Do you LIVE in England? Do you venture out on the STREETS? Give me a freakin’ BREAK.

Victims describe an emboldened angry fringe emerging to crow over Thursday’s vote

Nigel Farage will make England resemble his nasty teeth…

I am just going to add to your point; here are some of his juiciest quotes.

In an interview with the International Business Times last month, Mr Farage said society had become too obsessed with a rise in GDP, and said: “It’s actually not very hard to do that if you have uncontrolled immigration.” Unbelievable, these people, coming over here, making our economy better.

The Ukip leader claimed on BBC Question Time in 2012 that rising house prices in London were due to “Greek money” fleeing the Eurozone.

He also claimed a lack of social housing in London was because of immigrants coming from Eastern Europe and “[getting] a national insurance number easily within a fortnight”.

In a speech to Faversham grammar school in Kent in 2012, Mr Farage said: “We have 22 per cent of young people unemployed yet with open borders we are doing our own people out of jobs.”

“It was a stopper going out and we stopped at London Bridge, New Cross, Hither Green. It was not until we got past Grove Park that I could hear English being audibly spoken in the carriage,” he said. Presumably forgetting that his German wife probably speaks German when calling her German family back in Germany, as Mr O’Brien pointed out.

In one of his most strident attacks on immigration, Mr Farage said parts of the country have “frankly become” unrecognizable and look “like a foreign land”. (He didn’t say if this included the M4).

Is it really that hard to imagine that those that voted for a BREXIT are the same folks yelling at the legal immigrants? Is it hard to imagine that this man was the bullhorn for such actions?
