Discussion: Insurers Torch New Cruz Provision In TrumpCare: 'Simply Unworkable'

Stop handing out cake!
Shut down the circuses!!

I’m sorry to say this, but the failing health of the American middle clas is way more complicated than diet and exercise. It’s cultural, and the GOP have a stranglehold on a huge segment of our (least educated, least healthy, most freaked out, WHITE) members of society because of it.

And they REALLY don’t want to let go.

So Senator Smug Mouth can’t even please Wall Street. Texas, please realize this guy’s out for nothing but attention for himself - a big, unethical, bible-thumping, do-nothing con.

Somewhat OT but it appears some NBC executive has enforced some ‘fair & balanced’ bit onto AMJoy’s first two segments this morning.
Joy’s fantastic summary segments of yore now reduced to a standard cable formula pro & con, one on one no doubt through the cold, dead hand of Phil Griffin. Back off, Phil.

Senator Cruz. . .One wonders why he foisted an idea that anyone with an understanding of what insurance really does would find self defeating. In fact, his idea causes one type of insurance to intentionally devour the other. The people of Alberta sigh with relief (again) that daddy took this awful man to the United States, rendering Canada safe. Does anyone like this troll?

Not going down this road today while a law which saves millions of lives is on the line.

With all due respect, I think this is more about placating the Kochs et al and they don’t really care about any of it. They need to show Charles and David that they are purity warriors - which is why McConnell chose to go with the hardliners rather than the moderates. It’s all theater, as usual.

I will acknowledge Hannity, Hewitt, Rushbo, McConnell, Ryan and many other 'pubs with a mic fall into the 54% of 'pubs who want the ACA repealed, and not even necessarily replaced, but that 41% of 'pubs who instead want the ACA improved has got to give them pause especially when seeing that 72% of self-proclaim Indies also want the ACA improved vs. 22% for R/R.

If Mitch brings this bill to the floor, he’s screwed either way. If it passes, he’s screwed. If it fails, he’s screwed. Even if he doesn’t bring it to the floor, he’s screwed. And now the 'pubs and their Tramp in Chief, “own” healthcare. I hope the Dems have solid messaging going into 2018!

I think that cynicism is what we’re battling and we have to rely on weak willed selfish politicians as our defense. Not a good spot to be in.

The flaws in the “Consumer Freedom Option” are not bugs, they’re features: this amendment was added to increase legislative support for what is a tax cut bill, not a health care bill.

For the record, I’m putting my money on fail. Pretty sure Murkowski and Heller - who is in the worst spot of all - are going to vote against. And then we get to hear about how we’re stuck with failing Obamacare until the midterms, and which they will ensure fails even more!

Gusfabtrani isn’t saying that.

It’s true if we ate better it would make a huge impact on the cost of healthcare.

Ounce of prevention, pound of cure.

please explain how/why anyone in the senate wants to get behind this bill

It’s because the Republican “health care bill” has little to do with actual health care. It’s motivated primarily by the savagely greedy desire to end Medicaid, and redistribute those monies to the 1%. That’s what the Kochsuckers and their ilk want most.

I get that, blue, but even these math-challenged 'pubs can read a simple poll and they should be able to glean that their futures are on the line if they vote for this mess.

And then they capped it off by telling Cruz that he smelled funny and that nobody likes him

They don’t care. The Kochs are all about ideological purity and they come before any voters. The Kochs’ money will destroy them if they vote against it.

Your comments remind me of the GOP arguments.

If you have health care you will use it. So having health care causes the price to go up. The solution then is to offer useless plans to drive down costs.

You however propose that Government regulate what you eat, and do. The FDA, USDA, all ready do this, and in large part promote an unhealthy diet to support the cattle industry etc.

I agree that we eat and act unhealthy, but simply put the GOV. is incapable of controlling it, there simply to much money to be made in food.

I hope the Dems have solid messaging going into 2018!

I listened to a TV interview with Tom Perez, head of DNC, he was asked why people should vote for Dems and what Dems stood for. He couldn’t answer the question Huge swaths of the country don’t identify with the Democrats anymore. You’re looking for solid messaging. Nothing wrong with that. I’m wondering if the Dems will even have a message beyond being anti-Trump.

“It is simply unworkable in any form and would undermine protections for those with pre-existing medical conditions, increase premiums and lead to widespread terminations of coverage for people currently enrolled in the individual market,”

In other words, it works just the way Rafael wants it to work.

Your diet recommendations may be sincere, but blaming people for their own illness does not work to change behavior. Illness is not a moral failing – any more than being poor is – although republicans equate the two. Ever hear of food deserts? Poor people consume a lot of fast food because it is very filling and cheap and available – where as fresh food often is not. The corporations deliver a product which is highly palatable and proven to be highly addictive. It will keep people alive in the short term but its ultimately toxic to them and the US government subsidizes the crops used to produce it.

If it passes, he’s screwed.

I’m not so sure of that… the insistence of the GOP leadership on ramming these bills through in spite of the vast amount of opposition from both average citizens and organizations having any involvement with health care or insurance might be because McConnell believes that there is no way the Dems can take back either House or Senate.

In other words, Turtle and the Cold-Eyed Granny Starver know that the combination of gerrymandering in House districts, voter suppression everywhere, and Russian social media trolling and election hacking are all sufficient to keep the GOP in power indefinitely, regardless of its actual approval numbers.
