Discussion: Inside The DOJ's $1.5M Plan To Train Cops To Use Their 'Wits Rather Than Their Weapons'

Discussion for article #236683

In other words spend money for training that was common training and practice up until military weapons and attitudes took over. By the way when I first entered the Army (1965) it was common practice to train for civilian unrest and riots included in the training was non-lethal methods. Long before the idiots calling this type of current training a precursor to marshal law.

So, you’re trashing a good idea? You must be lots of fun at parties.

I applaud this effort and the money being spent on it.

With all the technology we have to do things remotely like drones, why can’t the gun companies come up with a phaser gun for the police to use instead of a lethal weapon? Do these companies make their biggest profits from selling bullets?

Is 1.5 mil much to spend/invest? They gave away military gear worth much more, 1.5 mil divided into the thousands of PDs across the nation isn’t much.

See, you raise a conflict of interest issue. Sure 1.5 million is not much to train people. But weapons companies get none of that money. They want to see big cash for those moon man suits and heavy weaponry they hawk. It’s not to benefit policing of course, it’s an arms selling racket.

it is so much easier to train them to just blast away, then say, “i was afraid for my life”. covers all bases. end of training.

We need an arms race like we need another war on drugs. In fact, fully legalize marijuana and fully criminalize gun crimes.

What I’m saying is, lets all get high and may the NRA die!

I think that too many start out with that training and get worse.

Make a cop use his/her wits, Go to Jail!

Give a cop war toys, war happens.
