âWhile youâre âblastingâ, weâre locking ourselves in for another generation. Also, fuck you.â
Signed,
Republicans
âAw you Dems are such crybabies. Weâll switch it back just as soon as thereâs a Republican Governor again. See, weâre flexibleâ
They really do view democracy as a nasty inconvenience blocking them from getting their way.
âWe donât look good toâŚthe rest of the countryâ
You got that right
The Republicans can do whatever they like. There is no effective opposition party.
take it as an object lessonâŚ
anyone think the Federal government will act differently now?
âThis is an unprecedented, shameful and cowardly power grab from Republicans.â
Putin: âYou have learned well, my young apprentices.â
"This is why people donât trust us, this is why they hate us ⌠" said the Democratic state representative. Why on earth did he include âusâ in this statement? Democrats are so appallingly bad at messaging that, while he condemns their acts, he even calls blame down upon himself. Itâs madness and self-defeating incompetence. Democrats will never ever regain power if they cannot regain the ability to communicate even relatively simple ideas. Meanwhile, the Republicans in North Carolina will simply explain it in a way that not only sounds reasonable, but also places the blame directly and entirely on the Democrats. This inability to communicate is the true cancer that is destroying the Democratic party.
Hopefully while he was giving that speech, there was a full throated legal push going on to deny the NC GOPâs move as being illegal since I donât believe thereâs any other way to stop them.
100% on the mark. Indeed why did she include âusâ? Democrats are so awful at this politics game Iâve often wondered if it isnât just part of the smoke and mirrors that keep us from burning everything down.
All we have between us and collapse are these slap fighting, effete morons who canât message their way out of a paper bag.
Buy canned goods and good luck.
Itâs hard to imagine such legislation would not violate the state constitution and their separation of powers principals.
There are a lot of fortune 500 companies in NC. When do they say âenoughâ? They started pushing back on the bigoted LGBT bill (and calling it a âbathroom billâ plays into their bigoted hands. That bill made it against state law for local governments to pass ANY laws protecting the civil rights of LGBT citizens) but this is just as bad. Itâs a subversion of democracy.
This is a crushing story. Now ad hoc restriction/expansion of official powers will join gerrymandering, fake news and vote suppression as routine GOP maneuvers. There is no way to fight this without accommodating and legitimizing it. Increasingly I think that the only way to save US democracy from this stuff, both at the state and federal levels, is to approach the matter with a disruptive, Elon Musk-type strategy, e.g., with the help of billionaire funding, moving a million D voters to Texas and Florida, and putting these states into the D column for the next 5 presidential elections, thereby ensuring the White House even if the midwest stays with Trump.
The quote that caught my attention was, âthe legislation we are seeing today are attempts from Republicans to usurp power from Governor-elect Roy Cooperâ.
Should read, âthe legislation we are seeing today are attempts from Republicans to usurp power from the voters of of NCâ
All of the coverage I have seen on this issue (and its been great coverage), refers to bills âproposedâ. Have these bills been voted on the NC legislature? If not, when will they be?
It seems like NC elected a Dem for governor because of the last piece of âdead of nightâ legislation this supposedly democratic body passed. So much for pretending that the will of the people will be respected. Itâs clearly do it their way or else. Does Governor-elect Cooper have any good options?
