Discussion: In Upset, Progressive Bests Dem Frontrunner In Florida Gov Primary

I’m absolutely thrilled and over the moon about this one! He has been up on email since last year. I get at least an email a week from him. Just an aggressive campaigner and a great guy. He IS who the Democratic Party is. This is our future.

Awesome! And I’m not surprised at all. The nation’s hungry for strong, progressive leadership.

Very excited. A young, energetic, palpably idealistic Democrat will be exactly the shot in the arm that we need in Florida. This is good news for Nelson, too–it would have been a disaster for turnout to have two middle-of-the-road candidates running. This guy has star power. Not going to be easy to win in Florida, but this guy will make the Blue Wave feel real to FL Dems of every background. The turnout also broke all records. Bring on November.

What’s the deal with the “FBI investigation” of Tallahassee City Hall? There’s a lot of trolling about this. About how Gillum is under investigation. But trolls are rarely known for either their accuracy or objectivity. How big a problem is this for Gillum?

That is a really good sign.

Let’s hope he wins. Curiously, he was trailing in all of the polls for this race by a lot. Double digits in most polls. I think that might mean that the polling firms are grossly underestimating the progressive turnouts for these elections. If that holds for the general, then expect the blue tsunami to possibly double expectations in size this year. We can only hope.

What makes me feel that dirty play is at hand here. Republican just got their dream candidate to run against by Andrew Gillum some how winning in districts he was not suppose to win. Has the Russians, It was reported that they had already hacked into the election system some weeks ago and may have a hand in this, I would be very suspect of these results.

@pluckyinky

Gillum had consistently trailed in the few polls on the race, but scored a boost with the endorsement of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), who joined him on the campaign trail.

Or, they were using 2010/2014 models… And black turnout shot up. Yeah, but OK.

This is very, very good. Charismatic, capable guy who could very well take the state. Bring it on!

34% is not a very broad base of support.

Not just Florida.

This was my thought, too. I always suspected Russia had a hand in flipping votes in toss-up districts in the Presidential election where they were easiest to hide.

That said, this is the better Democrat…

I can write the Morning Joe script from here: “The Dems have thrown this one away by lurching to the left with their Socialist, ICE-abolishing, Sandersesque nomination.”

Oy.

It certainly gives FL voters a clear choice in the general. Let’s hope the Trumpster loses bigly.

Yeah…there is that.
