Discussion: In Shift, McConnell Implies He Will Consider Trump SCOTUS Nom In Election Year

I completely identify with your feelings. I can’t begin to describe how angry and frustrated I am that my Barry Goldwater / Ronald Regan Republican parents were so mislead by evil Republicans, that they so misunderstood how horrendous Reagan’s government policies were and how right I was to oppose them then, that I can barely spit.

That said, in defense of the Democratic Party, Parties are just “shell corporations”. The Democratic Party can’t stop this. The power is in the owners. The Party doesn’t have the voting power. One can legitimately argue that the Democratic Party should be better at recruiting people to its side, but the fact is that there’s two parties — Republican and American — and citizens should recognize that expecting benefit is not the duty of citizenship.

We go to war with the Party we’ve got. We conquer, then improve for all through innovation. That’s why we’re asking libertarians, free traders, rugged individuals, as well as oppressed people around the world, to help us, to join us, to make us a more perfect union of decent, civilized people.

Would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks for the comment!

Ah yes, the oral tradition. The tribal elder is passing it down to the following generation. Of course, since he is the only one old enough to remember the tradition, he can just make shit up and fill the kids’ heads with it. And since this tribe plans to be in power for the next 1000 years, things will go however the elder says they will.

I’m going to repost this. Apologies to those who’ve read it already.

The strategy on expanding the court should be stolen from the GOP playbook (I’m deadly serious). It assumes we control all three branches in 2020.

  1. Dems confidentially agree, this week, to expand the Court asap.
  1. Dems dog-whistle this fact to their supporters. The dog whistle is: legitimacy. The Trump court lacks legitimacy. [UPDATE: SEE BELOW]
  1. Dems deny they’re going to expand the court–in fact rule it out absolutely. Then more dog whistles.
  1. Dems win in 2020 and replace RBG and SB right away.
  1. Dems then expand the court, preferably before 6 months of the new administration has passed. Ram it through the House and Senate. Call it the McConnell procedure.
  1. Dems use the furore surrounding the SC to ram through every possible new policy, including statehood for PR and DC.
  1. Dems to their best to ensure that GOP Court’s on decisions redistricting, VRA, Citizens United are all overturned before the 2022 midterm, unless the 2020 census has produced districts that favor Dems (most unlikely).
  1. Dems retain power in the Senate in 2022, the year that the senate map most favors Dems.

That all sounds radical, but it’s actually what is needed to restore the country to some semblance of a democracy. It must be the plan. After that it will be up to the US voters to keep things going. Note that when Roosevelt tried to expand the court, it suddenly began deciding 5-4 in his favor.

“loosing the next generation of millennial voters”, as far as I am concerned they desire to lose ALL voters of any age. I’m 73 and used to look at the person rather than party, I voted and even when In-Country in Vietnam made sure I got a ballot. Then the REPUGS walked away from any principles and working for the best of the nation, so I walked away from any consideration of a GOP candidate. Since the Clinton Administration the DIMs have been intentionally ineffective, thus my DIMs acronym. What is left for a thoughtful voter, sure is not the fringes like advocated by Sarandon and her ilk. Apathy is becoming the next step as far a looking for good government is concerned, because government has walked away from me. When I do at last walk it will be 100000000000000% for me nothing for anyone else.

O you’re helpful.

Let me make this as clear as I can: It is not about you. It’s about what is best for the country.

Correct, on the other hand they DON’T even try… once again 2/3 of local positions are going unopposed this cycle. On the national level this is the first Senate election they have even tried to field a competitive candidate. It was so bad the last time both Alexander and Corker ran they needed to do virtually no campaigning.

PS: For those who say that I then should run. I’ll respond with, if you take the 3rd form of cancer I have been fighting since 1987, I will run. FYI: My VA doctors tell me I am one of the many walking dead of Vietnam.

What a loathsome human being.

But he gets away with it because the media is busily fluffing the “both sides” narrative.

Yes.

Because we’re not allowed to; the massive false equivalency the press engages in has basically made it impossible for the GOP to be called out on what they are: liars, bigots, crybabies, misogynists, and brats. As much as Schumer and Pelosi would be in the right by calling their counterparts out on their behavior, their coddling and even encouragement of white supremacists, and outright illegal activities, this is what would happen the next day, if not within the hour: the GOP goes “The Democrats are being mean to me!” and the press wags their finger, saying "Now you be nice to the GOP, they’re very sensitive."It’s why Obama couldn’t reveal vital info during 2016, because McConnell knew that people would buy into it being a “partisan attack.” That’s what has been going on for decades. It’s why people like Chuck Todd claim bullshit like Hillary being “overprepared” during a debate. They’re so desperate for balance, they make it up.

In Italy, you could face a mandatory life sentence for participating in a gang rape. In America, you may face a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court. Any reasonable country might find middle ground here, which shows just how radical McConnell’s politics have become.

There was never a ‘rule.’ This is nothing short of slow motion coup.

I know I’ve written this before, but it must be refreshing to walk around in the world with no sense of shame. What’s it like? What’s it like to interact with the world without an iota of honor? Evil sure gets a lot of people out of bed with a sense of purpose to get crackin’ on destroying the middle class.

I know, and I understand. Add to it the state of media is terrible too. But we never “controlled” that, that’s not the liberal nature, any more than it is for representatives to vote in lockstep. This is the on-going war between liberalism — it should all be fair and work efficiently — and conservatism — I’ll say when it’s fair — and now it’s our turn.

Do we stand up to the king? We have to do it as a large group.

I’m all about empathy. That being said, if I had a face like McConnell’s, I guess I’d find my kicks where I could as well.

Let’s hope we don’t have two angry clowns out there trading insults in the 2020 election. I prefer a Democratic candidate who can propose sane options for the country while swiping with devastating, truthful hatchet gashes that expose the corruption, graft and mendacity of Trump’s presidency and entire life. I’m not opposed to the Dems rat fucking the Repugs at every opportunity that might arise.
