My brother choses to believe there is a world-wide conspiracy of climate scientists who want more government grant money, and are lying about climate change to get the money. At the same time, his home came this close to burning down during the latest CA fires. He’s not dumb or ignorant, he’s an aeronautical engineer. But he always furious about something, perpetually enraged.

Some people want their mundane lives to have great meaning to the point they will get involved in utter nonsense to feel that sense of meaning. It’s idiotic from the outside but from the inside it’s all pats on the back about how clever you are to take up the mantle of righteousness in the face of great adversity. It’s why superhero movies are so big now, people want heroes they can believe in and they want to help those heroes on their quests. If it was a video game it’d make sense but as life it’s beyond moronic but easily explainable: people want to defeat evil. It’s a concept that’s been going on for thousands of years because it gives people a way to not have to reflect inwards and realize everybody has the capability for good and evil and that some of their actions and choices are indeed evil, which means they need to deal with painful issue to get past such behavior. It’s just much easier to blame a hallucinatory pedophile ring for their ills rather than work on themselves.

I can speak of doctors being weird having spent decades teaching them. Some refuse to accept hard evidence on vaccines. I for one get a flu shot and the pneumonia shot as well
