Who gives a damn about his base and what they support (aka known as whatever the hell Trump does)?
My question is how do the people who are still voting GOP based on habit, don’t pay that much attention - but do to the horror of this past week probably are aware of this - and if they vote … will they be uncomfortable enough to break the habit of voting gop and start voting like an independent (and not for gop reps?)
I’m not sure even Trump himself would see this as an example of three-dimensional chess. He always seems shocked that he’s seen as a pariah and loose cannon.
It’s always all about Trump, and when the protests overwhelm this it will be more victimhood for his cult. “See, those damn Jews/urbanites/Demonrats can’t even tolerate his presence in a sympathy call! Both sides!”
The initial internal polling must be in…and it is not looking good for Republicans to line up with Trump on this.
I would like to think that GOP politicians have a conscious and it kicked-in, but radicalizing their constituents has been a priority of theirs for some time now, so polling & elections are much more likely the answer. Wild speculation, but I suspect the WH reactions to these killings are not setting well with some the GOP base (probably loosing more women).
Inciting violence for use as a political weapon has consequences, sadly. In this case I am just hoping there are political consequences for this choice that might turn this around.
Davis pointed to moments when her father, Ronald Reagan, and his successors Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama offered “comfort and solace to a grieving nation,” and “we didn’t doubt that their hearts were breaking along with ours.” Trump, she added, “will never offer comfort, compassion, or empathy to a grieving nation. It’s not in him. When questioned after a tragedy, he will always be glib and inappropriate. So I have a wild suggestion: Let’s stop asking him. His words are only salt in our wounds.”
Ivanka and Jared crashed John McCain’s funeral when it was made clear by the grieving family they weren’t welcome then got pissy about not being seated in the VIP section. Now, they are at it again, except this time diktator don will be the one throwing a temper tantrum when the deceased and grief stricken friends and family “upstage him”. That is how they will see it and it will get ugly.
