There have been many commenters especially from conservative media (Fixed Noise in particular), politicians, and representatives from POAs throughout this country that have employed a baseless argument about this officer tragic and other recent deaths of officers kill in the line of duty, and those deaths attributable to the Black Lives Matter movement, and others that dane to criticize the police/law enforcement for misconduct, abuse, and unconstitutional shootings of unarmed citizens, police beatings, police speaking to certain citizens unprofessionally. Let’s not forget the Walter Jones killing in South Carolina where officer clearly planted evidence and tampered with the crime scene evidence.
I wonder will we hear anyone of those the accuse BLM of fomenting hatred against the police…will they offer an apology? I won’t hold my breath. Will the offer condemnation against this officer for what he did? I doubt it…Will they cry bloody murder for the cost this officer cost the taxpayers for staging this phony alleged crime scene. Why did it take so long for the authorities to come to this conclusion? Clearly they have known from the early stages of this investigation that it was a bogus shooting/murder and he committed suicide.
There have been other case reported in the last several weeks of police officer manufacturing assaults and shootings against them and blaming on citizens – usually the vague minority suspect.
The problem is we have far too many gullible American citizens that will give the benefit of the doubt even in the face of overwhelming evidence of police impropriety. I have little faith things will get better and these issues are addressed…Shame on America!

Siucide is the most common cause of death of police officers. Much higher than line-of-duty deaths. Making it look like a homicide is unusual, but police commit suicide all the time without any criminal activity to feel guilty about.
PTSD in police officers is very high.

Local news reports indicate it was a cop conspiracy. This LT and at least 2 others were forging documents, stealing and laundering money for years.
The other 2 suspects are still unnamed but the FBI is also investigating.

The chief of his department had been suspended because the city administrator thought he had looked the other way over a police brutality claim involving another officer. This guy was picked to head the investigation into that. The chief subsequently resigned. The killing took place two days after the chief’s resignation. During the investigation of the killing, evidence of embezzlement was uncovered involving the dead cop, and at least two other people were involved in that series of crimes. I will not speculate as to the facts behind any of this, but it is very interesting.

he was alive when they found him, but it couldn’t be far.

Yes, some of the stuff police have to see on a regular basis can be very hard to deal with. A lot of death, abuse, blood, etc. You never hear about any of that.
Indeed this is completely different, this guy was just bad news and made his own “trouble”.
One of the most suspicious things to me is he supposedly shot himself twice…hummm, I don’t own a gun nor do I shoot them but I really have a hard time with him shooting himself twice. Seems like it would be hard enough to shoot yourself once but twice? That seems really fishy to me.
Edit: In response to some of the points made below, another thing that seems weird is that it was “carefully staged”. Seems like most folks that have reached a point where they don’t want to live and don’t really care what it looks like, they just want to be free.
The gun was found about 3 feet from his body an hour later. He was in a swampy area.
Both shots were to the torso, but one was to the vest. Police say he was trying to make it look like there was a struggle. One shot to kill himself would be very suspicious. The first shot hitting the vest made it look more like there was a struggle.
Still not a foolproof plan obviously.
The first shot was into his bullet proof vest and intriguingly, destroyed his cell phone. The second shot was fired from underneath his vest. He was alive when found, and may have been able to toss the gun a shot distance after firing it…if he did.
This is a story of addiction-the cigarettes tell the story.
Yeah, but you know - the EMTs see all the same stuff, and they somehow manage to deal with it without becoming psycho a-holes. I do get tired of people excusing bad cop behavior because of “all the bad stuff they see”.
