Yes . I don’t think he was shot just because he supported Ted Cruz (which I do consider a serious office). Most likely this Remington guy had been sticking his gun where he shouldn’t.

What, if anything, would be the blowback if it turns out the shooter was a Trump supporter who shot the pastor specifically because of his Cruz position?
It may not be the case this time, but unquestionably, it’s gonna happen. Someone will be killed by one or more Trump supporters for no other reason than that victim not being a Trump supporter. Only a matter of when, not if.

Well, we have no idea of what the motive is yet. I mean, it happened a day after he spoke at the Cruz event, at his own church.
Exactly, someone doesn’t sit outside waiting in their car to shoot someone in broad daylight because of his politics. This was personal. And there’s only a couple of reasons people commit this type of crime without concern for being caught. It’s either sex, love, and/or money.

Without a shred of evidence TPM links the shooting to his endorsement of Cruz. Shoddy.
I’ve always maintained that granting any tax exemption to a church, absent some other criteria, is unconstitutional, with or without political activity. It places the Government in the position of deciding what is, and is not, a “legitimate” religion. That’s prohibited.
If you want to grant tax exemptions to charities, fine - they have to demonstrate their charitable purpose, and meet certain criteria (and I’d tighten things up, demanding stricter controls on things like overhead expenses, salaries, and so on). I don’t care whether it’s a “religion” or not - that shouldn’t be relevant. Other than that, a church is just another business.

This shooting, so far as anyone knows, had nothing to do with him speaking before a Cruz crowd, which doesn’t even make sense that it would anyway. The headline insinuating differently…to the point that the headline makes it sound like he was shot right afterwards and in the context of the event…is a fucking insult. We’re going to click on it even if the headline isn’t some warped alternate reality click-bait…promise.
