And now the great news
Mississippi. Goddamn.
Not a surprise, the radical racist got a lot of the vote in the first round, and that basically transferred over to Hyde-Smith. I tend to believe that her “controversies” were nothing but dog whistles to those racists to make sure they came out and voted for her instead of staying home.
At some point, the racists are going to die off, and young people, even in MS, are much more liberal and open to others. If the Democrats were smart, they would start up the 50 state program again and build up their party infrastructure in every state…even the lost causes like MS can turn into a place where Democrats can win at least some of the time. Right now, even a good candidate like Espy is basically on his own in states like this, and that has to change.
Racist wins. Oh Mississippi!
Mississippi to America:
“Welcome to Klan Kountry”.
“But it was her odd gaffes that prompted intense discussion in the state and nationally about Mississippi’s dark racial
historypresent.”
Clearly.
And the sooner journalism stops pretending “that’s all in the past”, the better.
Oh Mississippi, I’m so sorry. Maybe next time. Given your history, it’s going to take time. We all hope for the best.
Like George Wallace, she wasn’t going to be out-niggered this time around.
It would really suck to be a Democrat (let alone a liberal one) in Mississippi. I feel for them. Seriously.
I speak as an Iowan who has watched his beloved state turn red.
Always liked this game … remember ? ? …

Fantastic turnout by Dems in MS. Cut the victory margin to 9 points. That is a blue wave down there. Every reason for our southern brothers and sisters to feel good. Onwards and upwards.
Update: 7.8% margin with only a few precincts left.
This result is aligning to the model I had put together. Total vote currently exceeds 800k which is what I thought was the inflection point between a narrow margin and a clear Hyde-Smith win.
In my view, Espy did not get the vote out to the level needed. Dems have underperformed their potential here after what they did in Round 1. That’s not Espy’s fault. I think he did a great job as a campaigner. I think that this result shows that the Dems need to invest and build their electorate. If you look at how Dems have done in NC, getting a little better each cycle, that’s the model needed for MS. Espy will have won over 30 counties when all is said and done tonight. We don’t do that in a lot of states. Dems have to go to work in those counties and develop the voter base, make it easier to register and encourage participation. Start winning local elections there with this base and build.
Note: Espy is actually going to win 42 out of 84 counties tonight. As a first step to winning statewide, we have to figure out how to get more votes out of these counties. In round 1, turnout in blue counties was around 42% of the voting age population. If we can work on figuring out how to get that turnout above 50% that would start to narrow the margins statewide and perhaps change local politics a bit.
At least she can continue to avail herself of her senate employee dental plan, that is if she is aware of it.
Trump: Unlike Obama’s Commie liberals, we like White Men and White Women who are racists.
yep … once again …

Don’t they still have that little Senate pharmacy where … ya know …
they pay 20% of what we the ’ others ’ do for their scripts ? ? …
Yay! The first woman senator from Mississippi! Another historic milestone has been reached! She is one of the rancid, moldering, unreconstructed undead who keep rising again from the grave of the confederacy, but she’s all woman!
“Hyde-Smith Hangs On”: Very good. She just keeps hanging. What a swinger. She must be delighted with the public hanging spectacle of herself. Oh, was that not what she had in mind?
