Actually, they’ll be getting paid the whole time; the statistics on police prosecutions is abysmal and police unions typically have an arsenal of savvy lawyers to make sure these guys never see the inside of a jail cell, while the municipality suffers all the financial consequences.
So yeah, they probably will be enjoying themselves.
And the rest of us suburbanites in St. Louis County will end up paying for that expensive legal defense.
Aren’t we all getting sick of all this government authoritarian crap? All the Far Right wants is confrontation… and then for everyone to just forget the horrible consequences of this abuse of authority and accept their fake apologies.
If this was happening to the TeaParty when they confront government facilities, you betcha that there would be hell to pay by the cops for acting like storm troopers kicking down doors in Baghdad.
Wish the victim had been Joe Scar…except that would require him to get out from behind his desk and actually go see what is happening in the streets in Ferguson.
We had a case here not long ago where a young black guy tried to sue the police after several of them, in street clothes, jumped out of a van, yelled at him and then threw him to the ground and beat the crap out of him.
He was carrying no gun, but cops claimed he had a bottle of water and that it looked like a gun. 24 hours later, a police re-search of the neighborhood just happened to discover a gun lying on the ground.
He did manage to get a pittance for medical treatments from his beating, but the jury aquitted the cops of anything else.
It is nearly IMPOSSIBLE to get a jury to find the cops at fault, especially if the victim is black…ESPECIALLY (and I am white).
As has been noted several times, the disparity in police treatment of whites and blacks is about as blatant as it gets when you consider Ferguson and recent reports of dealing with open carry idiots who confront police. (You can count the number of blacks who would risk open carry nationwide on one thumb.)
Mr. Reilly now knows what it is like to be a member of the lower class in the American Urban Environs. This could get really interesting.
But you forget the electorate has a collective memory of the last 20 minutes and it’s 5 days after the incident.

In the 1950s there were cops like that. In downtown Saginaw there was a traffic cop who everyone, adults and children called ‘Chesty’ (I guess his name was Chester, but Chesty was all I knew as a kid.) He handed out candy and knew people by name. He looked like Santa without a beard.
I seriously wonder if the reason they don’t want any pictures and won’t wear any badges is because MANY of the “police” in the military gear are really just local bubba’s that were hastily “Deputized” to help handle the “black menace” in Ferguson.
