Seriously. 31K could get you a private chef. Maybe not a great one, but it’s more than any short order cook makes.
“Carson was not previously aware…”
Candy wanted it to be a surprise !
They talk of being restricted to a $5,000 budget while spending $200,000 that we know of so far. Fiscal responsibility is not now and never has been a reality for Republicans. Four billion for two shiny new AF1’s; such self- denial.
I once worked with a senior executive for our company. I knew he pulled some cash, but did not realize just how loaded this guy was. Then one day he casually talked about the new dining set he bought (which was in this neighborhood) and my mind kind of exploded – I never thought a real person (I mean, not like Liberace or Trump) could spend that kind of money on a table and chairs!
Hey, that’s uncalled for! It’s not Candy’s fault - he’s never been aware of anything, ever.
Asking for a friend…is he trying to unload it now?
THE REAL DEAL 1840’s Genuine Victorian Antique Dining Room Set
The Housing and Urban Development Department (HUD) spent $31,000 on a new dining set
Well, I don’t know. That may be perfectly economical. It depends on how many people are being housed underneath.
A quick look on craigslist in DC could have saved the taxpayers $30,500
And the fucking CHINA is included!

Whatever happened to the “Downtown Abbey” Rep with his personal ‘photografer’ “Jonathon” ? He gave some colour to TPM…
Pfft. $31,000? That’s nothin’.
The US Department of Housing and Urban Development (Hud) has agreed to spend $165,000 on “lounge furniture” for its Washington headquarters, in addition to a $31,000 dining set purchased for housing secretary Ben Carson’s office.

Also worth noting:
Helen Foster, HUD’s former chief administrative officer, alleges she was demoted after she refused to bankroll the pricey office remodeling, which Foster says had been requested by Carson’s wife.
Requested by Dr. “Uncle Ben” Ambien’s wife!
All the best people.
I am starting to think that we pay 2=3x each cabinet secretary’s salary in this administration for all the perks. Salary for HUD is about 199,000 - almost as much as that has been spent on furniture - now add in all the ridiculous perks that I am sure we will learn about in the future. And let’s not even get started on what is spent on Pruitt, Zinke, and DeVos…
Hermann Cain coulda done it for $999.00.
Well, one thing is for sure: This maladministration will be keeping many a government Inspectors General employed and quite busy into the foreseeable future. Years upon years to investigate and untangle all these financial shenanigans. My only concern: Make sure you hold them responsible for every penny and go for the jugular(s) each case.
Or at his desk like the rest of us…
Just another day in the Trump administration where they’re fleecing the taxpayers to live high on the hog. Why should voters expect his appointees to do anything different than he and his family are doing? What’s good for the goose is good for the gander.
I don’t know why he would use taxpayer money for this. Why doesn’t he just pray for a new Dining set? If he really needs one, then the lord will provide.
My wife and I have to live for a year on about what he (WE!) paid for a dining table and chairs.
And he’s gutting programs for the poor and less well off? Kicking people to the curb while complaining $5,000 isn’t enough for a CHAIR?!? This is right? Normal?
RUN FOR OFFICE and throw these grifters, chiselers and con men OUT!
I can’t keep Trump’s minions straight – is this one Uday or Qusay?
Aside from using the best words, like bing bing bong bong bam bam, Generalisimo Taco Gaslight McTraitorTot the 3rd hires only the best people. Way to drain the swamp. Thanks Republicans. We never thought you could go lower than breaking the country in 2006 but by golly you even surpassed our wildest imaginations. Idiocrity, it turns out, is a documentary.
A career official who had been told “now, the person who was in this job yesterday kicked up such an unreasonable fuss … I’m sure you value your career path though…”
