Discussion: Huckabee Compares Ferguson Protestors To Killers Of Civil Rights Icon

Discussion for article #230510

"“You don’t see any monuments to Bull Connor or the killers of Medgar Evers,” he said. " …with deep chagrin of course.

And there is not a chance in the world that Huckabee would have been supportive of Martin Luther King had Huckabee been a name the media would have swarmed to then.

So he is advocating they be allowed to commit any criminal acts they want and still go free until their dotage?

If there are people threatening violence over the decision, then I have to say I agree. The headlining is misleading IMO. He’s not saying regular protestors are the same, he’s saying the threatening violence is wrong, and using a clumsy analogy that he thinks is clever because it “reverses the roles”. Granted that’s based on what’s in the quotes in the articles, and prehaps his intention is for news organizations to run with the click grabbing sensanolist version. He is slime afterall. But I have to admit I agree with the concept of what I’m reading into the quote. I’m down with advocating for peaceful civil disobedience over violence.

Disclaimer: This again is provided that there are actual threats of violence, if that’s just s straw man that he created, then I withdraw my defense of the quote. Either way he’s still slime.

While what Huck says sounds insane based on facts, his followers will go for it every time. They are the ones who supported segregation, fought the protests with dogs, violence and some murders. Their brains are bent after generations of ignoring their own violence and inability to look at reality. The attitude of those in charge in Ferguson is the same as the past in segregation. The police chief ran to Hannity to do his spin before he talked to anyone else.

And I’m guessing most of the towns his fans live in do not in fact have streets named for Dr. King. And they love that oh-so-clever race-reversal trick – really sticks it to 'em, right?

Every time I see one of these Baggers explaining why 2+2 = 5, I just picture the Fox Moron Audience nodding their heads like bobblehead dolls, thinking "you know, he’s right, 2+2 DOES equal 5 ! ! !

There’s a whole street in Richmond with monuments to traitors and racists.

Hucky should get out more.

He raised a kid who tortures animals. I don’t understand how anyone could respect a word this maniac says.

Hey, don’t complain. One of the original proposals for a monument to Jefferson Davis was to erect a victory arch over Broad Street. Even Varina Davis thought that went a bit far. So they settled on a victory column instead. (The monument in the picture is the Davis Monument.)

And all of this is simply over whether or not the cop is even indicted - the grand jury is not conducting a trial, there’s no decision of guilt or innocence coming from them.

If this copy is not charged with something significant after this three month delay and all the public evidence we’ve heard there is something seriously wrong. I don’t believe that violence is justified, that solves nothing and just gives the racists cover for their continued overreaction.

We have ample evidence that the approach advocated by Dr. King, and Gandhi, is the only way to move this needle; why do we continue to ignore that?

I would like to suggest that what is wrong is probably not the jury itself – it is the prosecutor. He did not ask for an indictment on any specific charges. He just dumped a bunch of evidence in the laps of the jury, including exculpatory evidence for the officer, which is not normally part of a grand jury presentation, and asked them to decide if any charges were warranted, and if so, what charges those would be. Analysts that I have heard have pointed out that he’s asking the grand jury to do his job. The prosecutor is supposed to decide on the charges, and then present the elements of those charges to the grand jury and how the evidence supports the elements of those charges. Grand juries, they said, are really not equipped to wade through all of those requirements on their own, and they tend not to indict when the prosecution doesn’t give them anything specific to indict on.

It seems to me that the prosecutor has deliberately set up the process to minimize the chances that any indictment will be returned, and that’s one reason the people in Ferguson have said all along that this guy is not the person who should be prosecuting this case. He evidently has a history of doing this when a police officer is involved in a shooting.

**Please correct your headline, **as Huckabee said “killers,” apparently not even knowing the basic facts of the Evers case. Your headline is letting him and his ignorant remarks off easy.

And they all start to come out of the woodwork .

Hucklebuck does it again. This super-far-right minister and hater just can’t help himself.
