The House was lost to repubs when Pelosi helped Obama pass ACA. The Tea Party arose from their particular swamp, and there was no failure of policy making on her part.
I’m going to presume to speak for @tena because we’ve talked about this several times, and I believe she is in fact saying no one else is qualified. Pelosi rounds up her caucus like no one else can, certainly not rAyn the speaker, who can’t dependably herd his caucus into voting along R lines.
And I’ll say this for about the millionth time. Pelosi pours money which she raises from the very rich friends of hers in San Francisco, including people named Getty, and spreads it among other people running for the House. Who else could do that, the guy from Queens mentioned in this story? And from among the struggling minorities he represents? Moreover, if Clinton had won, Pelosi would’ve retired, so blame PP for winning.
Yes she does but she also raises millions for conservative causes - just by being Nancy Pelosi. She has a great story but she was Speaker when the Tea Party swift boated her with their Town Hall flag waving FREEDOM bullshit.
She was a good Speaker but far from ‘great’. That’s why I posted. And the fact that they’re both 78 fucking years old! Is there no one else, say 40-60, qualified to fill the Speakership? A serious problem for Democrats, considering their ‘reduced circumstances’.
Yessir, Yessir, House “democrats” here’s your chance to elevate to true leadership half of the “leadership” that put House “democrats” exactly where they were after 2010. Which is to say no place at all.
As anxious as I am to see Nancy “Impeachment is off the table” Pelosi get bounced out of her reunion with that big old gavel, Hoyer would be worse by half again.
Just what “democrats” need! Another political suit with an “It’s my turn!” attitude. They learned nothing from HRC.
I dog dare and defy “democrats” to run someone between 40-50 years of age for Speaker. They haven’t got the guts, and it’s yet more proof that they are STILL not listening to what voters tried to tell these Institutionalized mummies in 2016. Your time is OVER.
But as usual, we’ll have to wait for time to put these people underground before they would ever dream of turning loose of power (even if it is just a little of it.)
How many more elections will “democrats” lose between now and whenever real change comes because their “leadership” has no basic grasp of the New Century, or the technologies they will bring?
Do you want people who are not genuinely computer literate reshaping our copyright and IP Laws while dictating what happens to the Internet?
(While the Chinese and others steal the US blind and get away with it)
Hoyer and friends might be good people. Better by far than any snake oil salesmen from the other party. But there comes a time when old “leadership” has to go and new leadership to take over for a different time and day.
This also speaks to the other responsibility that they have been shirking. Where is the new generation of leadership, and why are the “leaders” of today not giving them more to do in a visible way?
If the “best” “democrats” can do is to hold even a sham “challenge” to the Old (Old, Old) Guard by someone of almost the same age, what condition is their “bench” really in? I don’t think they have one, which is why you’re going to see the same names again and again until the House looks like a living salute to Strom Thurmond. The only good I see in that is that they will (finally) have to make all areas of the Capitol accessible to wheelchairs.
I wonder if they’ll start putting “naptime” for people over 80 into the Congressional record?.
And this is the Party that wants and needs the “youth vote” (18-29) to have a better chance of winning in 2020?
Damn, that was great! It’s so very frustrating though, so many younger and attractive Democrats (it matters) with good communication skills getting TV time this past year, but when BIG news/decisions are announced it’s always Chuck & Nancy in the front row talking to the cameras.
Is there a Democrat with the guts to fight the Old Guard and fill the leadership role for the party? I was spoiled by Kennedy for sure but now’s the perfect time to fill the void. He/She would be the next president. Nancy & Steny shilling for the ‘Blue Wave’ isn’t going to be enough.
she does but she also raises millions for conservative causes
And Barack Obama raised a fortune for conservatives by being president. Should Democrats have impeached him?
Bc. the right is trying to tar her, does that mean we gotta get with their program?
You gotta be kidding me – I’d think we’d value that she galls them.
Some day when you’re 78 fucking years old and if you’re still working at something successfully you won’t think you’re old enough to quit or be fired. Bernie’s reviving himself to run again in 2020 when he’ll be 79. I hope people start ranting about that.
Rs hate her because she’s a woman in what they think is a man’s job. Their role model is fucking Ryan who’s in fucking bed with the fucking Kochs. There’s going to be a blue wave this year because of the fine job Rs have done in boosting our “reduced circumstances.” Too bad you, presumably a Democrat, don’t have more trust in the party’s leader.
I’m no where close to 78 and forgive me for my insensitivity, as you apparently are closer to 78 than you want to be, but Nancy is NOT ‘still working at something successfully’. She was the House leader and then lost it all two years later - by historic numbers. That is one fact your fail to recognize. It isn’t like baseball where fired managers keep rotating to other teams to ‘manage’. Billy Beane changed all that (sorry for my inside baseball reference).
In November 2016, a third of House Democrats voted to depose her as leader.
And remember the GOP’s ‘Say No to Pelosi’s Yes Man’, referring to John Ossoff, who lost.
And this, more recently, Conor Lamb’s statement, "I’ve already said on the front page of the newspaper that I don’t support Nancy Pelosi.” And he won - against $10 million in GOP attack ads, much of it aimed at his being Pelosi’s boy. As my House rep put it:
“That’s the harsh reality of 2018,” said Representative Seth Moulton of Massachusetts, one of a group of vocal Pelosi critics in the Democratic caucus. “It’s going to be harder to win in 2018 if we don’t have new leadership.”
Her unfavorables are a bit over 50%. With Obama and Clinton gone, Pelosi’s the only effective target left for the GOP. Want that to go away? Want to win back the House? Critically important these days, don’t you think?
No, but we should perhaps try a new program of our own considering how very successful the GOP has been using her to their advantage. That’s a fact. The GOP will continue to effectively use Pelosi for their scary ‘San Fran liberal’,‘out of touch’, ‘crumbs’ attack ads. Want that to go away? Her retiring could make the difference in who wins the House.
The Rs target Ds. We can’t be guided in our actions by the fact they do this. Even if some nonentity were elected Speaker, a no name from the boondocks or flyover state, he (and it will be a he) would also be targeted after the RWN noise machine makes sure their listeners know the name. Our job is say no to what Rs throw at us and not let their criticism be our guide to picking leaders and voting for the candidates we want. And I will contend to my dying day that much of the criticism of Pelosi, similar to the criticism we see against the also aging Feinstein, is testosterone driven.
There’s nothing more I want than to win back the House and all the indicators say we will. I also don’t think we should run on “we’ll impeach when we get the House” because that is a promise of chaos and not of governing.
I do know Billy Beane having seen the movie with B. Pitt but also because the better half’s a big fan of the A’s. They’re just across the bay from us. And yes, I wish I were 24. Eternally.
We’ll agree to disagree I guess but yeah, it is a testosterone driven world and when you consider our gender population 50/50 split, it makes perfect sense why male/female incarceration and suicide ratios are at a 90/10 split, or there about. Why we take it out on women I don’t know. Gov Greitens is a perfect example. Go figure.
