Discussion: Hoyer On Benghazi Probe: No Half Measures, Dems All-In Or Boycott

Discussion for article #222918

You’ve got to be in it to win it!

ALAN…ALAN…ALAN…

Let Alan Grayson sit on the committee.

Oh what the heck, go all in but go all in as mean, angry and determined to extract your own pound of flesh as possible. Be noisy, disruptive and call these hearings as you and most Americans see them.

Make the m’fricking GOTP pay dearly for wasting time, money and people on this by throwing these resources at this sinkhole. Ask where the g’damn jobs bills, CLEAN jobs bills not ones with all manner of noxious riders sure to fail in the Senate, that Boner promised in 2010 are. Get nasty tell the truth and be very very angry over all the money and wasted energy that the GOTP led mis-managed House has pissed away these past four years.

Use this as a forum to stand up and be as angry as I and the majority of Americans are about this continuing use of public resource trying to make GOTP political hay!

The Democrats are entitled to five representatives on the committee. Appoint Alan Grayson to cut the Republicans’ nuts off, and four players to be named later to carry them away.

Or, at least, you got to be in it to snark it – which is what the Dems should do.

What’s there to negotiate? This is a bad faith witch-hunt and everyone on the planet that is not rabidly insane knows it.

“…everyone on the planet that is rabidly insane…” (includes Michelle Bachmann, Daryll Issa, and Darth Cheney…many others not worth mentioning)

Alan Greyson is possibly the worst choice to sit on this committee. He can be as abrasive as some Republicans and therefore would probably be discredited.

Yep. Typo while trying to bang that out on the iPad. Fixed.

I say boycott. To those who disagree I would ask, where would you draw the line? At what point of ridiculousness would you agree to boycott? An investigation of the Birth-certificate? This is a sham. To sit on the committee just legitimizes something that does not come close to deserving it.

Hoyer said that if the ratio won’t be even (the panel allows for 7 Republicans and 5 Democrats) Democrats want an equal opportunities to call up witnesses, equal access to all documents submitted by the administration and a “full and fair opportunity” to have their lawmakers and counsel cross-examine witnesses.

“We’re still in negotiations [with Speaker John Boehner] on that issue,” he said.

Let’s hope that Rep. Hoyer et al. can slow-walk these negotiations into December.

Steny was also trying to tell us that “chained CPI” was not a cut to Social Security, so much for his judgement.

Grayson? Gimme a break. He’ll just give the MSM a way to show “balance” by pretending that Democrats can be just as big asses as Republicans.

Democrats should appoint the 5 wackiest Republicans to the panel (yeah I know that’s hard to choose) that way they question Clinton on the FEMA concentration camps (looking at you Bachmann) and the location of Obama’s real birth certificate (Gohmert and Braun). Dems should make it a total clown car.

Ira Glass, for one, could not care less what the Democrats decide to do.

But more to the point – even though I don’t think it matters a lot regardless, here’s an explanation I wrote recently about why sitting it out is best:

Think about the media dynamic. As we know, the one thing the media fears above all else is being called biased. (As the GOP has gotten crazier and crazier, the media has had to work harder and harder to hold their laughter and treat these folks seriously. But
they’ll do it, because treating idiots like idiots would be biased.)

If the Dems show up to this show trial, it’s easy for the media. Sound bite of Republican, sound bite of Democrat, call it a day and go home.

Net result: Benghazi! is legitimized as a he-said she-said dispute, the public tunes out, no one changes opinion. Draw.

If the Dems don’t show up, the media is NOT going to just show hours of footage of Republicans talking at the hearings. (That would be biased.) They’ll show the Democratic rebuttal, but… guess what? The Democrats are talking about jobs and the minimum wage and unemployment insurance. AND THE MEDIA HAS TO SHOW IT.

Net result: The few undecided voters, for whom Benghazi was roughly 1785th on their list of priorities, see each party’s actors on their TV screen talking about their respective priorities. Democratic rout.

What you say makes sense. I hadn’t thought of it that way, but you are surely right as regards the ridiculous media, salivating for sound bites…

The Democrats should sit on the Committee and ask each witness only one question: “Why do you think the Republicans hate America, and want to give aid and comfort to the terrorists?”

Blue Dog Steeney the Weeney will buckle as the Democrats always do.
