Discussion: How The New York Attorney General's Probe Threatens The NRA's Future

I’m not sure what constitutes “unapproved political activity” but if being partisan is breaking that rule, it shouldn’t be hard to prove. Almost all of their political donations go to Republicans.

I would think donations to candidates itself should be considered political activity. Why does a legitimate charity have to play politics at all.

That was my thought too, but I wasn’t sure and it’s too early to get flamed by lawyers.

Not to mention "Rating " politicians.
It’s a scam. You know it, I know it, and the American people know it

The money shot:
As If! It’s all they do
Owens added that if James finds evidence that the NRA “has morphed into some kind of lobbying or political group and not necessarily a charity as New York law would define it,” that could give the attorney general more leeway to move from allegations around the misuse of money to the existence of the NRA itself.

And then we go for their gunz, right? What … too early?

I’m hopeful there’ll be some nexus here with them being a funnel for dirty russian money. That seems the most egregious crime.

The NRA is not a charity, and they are all bad actors.

As if there is any question that the NRA is a bad actor that functions as a lobbying group for the gun industry and does little to no “charity” work. Not only that but their propaganda arm literally issues threats to their perceived political opposition on a regular basis, and incites violence from their unhinged gun fetishists. Let’s hope James does not pull any punches in this investigation. Seems pretty clear the NRA should be dissolved, but then again the evidence of Trump’s conspiracy with Russian intelligence was pretty clear as well yet Mueller lacked the courage to say so in his “report”.

And, NY is just getting around to thinking the NRA might not be on the up and up according to their laws. That sure took awhile.
May this criminal organization sink into the abyss.

Corruption abounds in the US. Good housekeeping is in order for the NRA and the POS in the White House.
Get rid of these evil people.

The only surprise here is that the NRA is legally a charity. James should ban the leadership from the NRA, then dissolve the organization. They have abused NY law long enough.

If the NY AG dissolves the NRA, what’s to stop them re-establishing themselves in a more “tolerant” jurisdiction?

I assume the real point here is not to kill the NRA, but to find out where their money has been coming from and where it has been going to. I assume the shredders are going 24/7 for any documents dated 2016 down in Virginia.

Trump may turn this into an alleged existential threat against conservatism, the second amendment and those supporting him and his efforts as President. If so it’ll be interesting to see what form his war on New York State Attorney General Letitia James will take. Will she be scum? Treasonous? Lock her up? Should be fun.

I read a commentary about that. If they’re dissolved then so are an array of legal relationships and agreements they have with various entities that may not renew them, as they were looking for an out for some time now, but dared not risk being the instigating party in severing ties. Once dissolved other organizations, banks, ad firms, etc could just choose not to sign on with the new NRA.

“The point is not to injure the charity because of what individual bad actors do.”
Define “charity”, please.

If NRA is asked to dissolve, can they restart it in another state?
