Discussion: How Propaganda Inflates Threats Against Police Officers

Discussion for article #227465

“…he is training a new generation of law enforcement to inflate threats as he does…”

And calling him on this will have little, if any, deterrent effect on the continued use of these rigged stats.

Once these phony stats get out there they take on a life of there own because they fill the need for “scientific” justification for outlaw police behavior…
They get repeated and passed along as gospel because they are lies all dressed up as fact.

The next cop killing gets credited to Joe Shults.

Oh, here’s your problem. You hype up the police to view ALL encounters with the public (and even more so with the minority public) as actual life/death situations and naturally people are going to be killed. No one is saying the police don’t face danger, but not every time with every person. Such an attitude destroys any sense of community, service and trust between the police and the public.

That’s how a person gets 41 shots in them reaching for their wallet and ID at the “request” of the police.

Typical partisan use of false data to forward their arguments for or against a particular policy.

So the Post was pretty much letting this guy run an ad for his business under the guise of an op-ed?

Stop using FACTS in your argument. That only PROVES that you are a “libtard” and want ISIS to destroy “A’Murica”.

Why do we need to equip and train Police? So they are able to quickly and correctly evaluate threats to the public and themselves. What we’re getting is a generation of officers who are less able to interact with the public in a civil and professional manner, more afraid and more likely to respond to that fear with deadly force.

I don’t know about you, but I am too tired of the racist argument about extremely dangerous unarmed Black Men who have the strength of ten men, who can only be subdued by shooting them multiple times. If you are that afraid of Blacks, do not become a Cop.

If you follow the links regarding other cop killings, it just gets worse and worse.

Always the same, we thought he was reaching for a gun, always in the back and always blacks. That isn’t propaganda, that is fact, much of it on video. The cops create the anger against them, then gear up even bigger to combat that anger. The cops are getting worse not us.

There are tons of jobs more dangerous than being a police officer. I understand, they take on a special kind of danger (that is legitimately scary), but this paranoid fantasy they live in is mostly delusional. If an officer can’t balance that fear enough to avoid shooting unarmed civilians, they shouldn’t be a police officer. The fact that they seem to show much greater restraint with armed and unarmed white civilians makes matters far more complicated and unnerving.

Might as well just say it. The white cops want to shoot blacks and really don’t need a real reason to do it.

The fact that they hold back with whites proves that they know what they are doing.

Yeah, facts have very little effect on FOX viewers fear level.

Where’s Andy Griffith in that picture?

I honestly think one of the problems is a lack of what I call “actual crime”. More and more police these days are getting federally-funded military type equipment and the training to go with it, and that’s making more and more police forces become over-militarized.

While some officers can probably adapt to the training, I think that a lot of them start to lose the ability to distinguish between the real bad guys and the general populace. In high crime zones this is easier, but in low crime zones that have a lack of bad guys,a lack of actual crime, the tolerance for what makes someone a bad guy eventually “drifts”, and pretty much anyone can be considered a bad guy, and then the smallest infraction is seen as a serious crime.  Things escalate, and someone gets shot for a petty misdemenor.

It’s a really bad road we’re headed down.
