Why are we spending days dissecting this, rather than simply taking Jeb Bush at his word?
He says, knowing that Iraq had no WMD, he’d have attacked anyway. There’s pretty strong evidence that his brother knew Iraq had no WMDs, and he attacked them anyway.
If George W. Bush can ignore evidence and start a war for no reason that costs trillions and kills hundreds of thousands of innocent people, why are we questioning his brother’s statement that he’d do the same thing?
I’ll just take it at face value.

Do folks actually think Jeb is going to dismiss his brother just like that? He HAS to say Dubya did the right thing. No way in hell can Jeb say thousands of American casualties were for nothing.

It’s going to be fun to see him have to try to answer for all his brother’s fuck ups. I keep thinking he’ll change his approach and try to distance himself from that disastrous and wildly unpopular term, but I guess the campaign thinks it’s smarter to cozy right on up to the miserable failure that is his brother’s legacy.
He has ZERO shot at winning. None.

Running for president is one thing, but running with a supreme lack of substance is another. It is as if he is saying, whatever you want, I won’t be running the show anyway.
Any vote for a bush is a vote for neoconyahus everywhere.

It is remarkable however that a consensus seems to be emerging among top conservatives that invading Iraq was a mistake. The other contenders for the nomination are practically tripping over themselves to come out and say it.
Meanwhile where are the apologies? Where is the acknowledgement that liberal activists who opposed the war were right? Without liberal skepticism and criticism the GOP would still be claiming “the surge worked!” They have a lot of gall 7 years after Obama’s election to casually declare the Iraq War a “mistake” as if that’s always been the common wisdom. Especially when the invasion of Iraq was not a “mistake,” it was a calculated plan to create a continual crisis, designed to make exiting Iraq as difficult and as painful as possible.

What we know now is that George W. Bush made it impossible to know what Iraq had before they were shocked and awed. He didn’t send nearly enough soldiers to occupy the country properly. In the predictably complete meltdown of law and order that ensued, Iraqi villagers looted the Al Tuwaitha Nuclear Research Center for Christ’s sake! People stole the “yellowcake” barrels for water and fuel containers!
If George W. Bush was not a liar, and the possibilities are not mutually exclusive, then he was the most grossly negligent President in history for trying to invade on the cheap and for not even trying to secure the facilities where he thought the stuff was supposed to be. I grasp why Jeb can’t say that about his own brother, but that’s no excuse for Carnival Cruz and the others.

If only media had a 10th of this young woman’s poise and moxie, America would be a better place.
