Discussion: How Donald Trump Made His Latino Problem Even Worse

Have we not come to the “conclusion” (as far as the media these days can go to “think thru” anything) that one cannot be elected President without impressive favorable percentages among both Hispanic voters and also among women?
A) someone has told Mister Dump this, and he (and his money) have “elected” to ignore it.
or
B) having taken in this fact, and knowing that he cannot win, he must have another goal.

I think it would serve the public interest much more at this stage to turn away from the “theater of misdirection” which this man has become, and instead turn to asking both the electorate at large and the man himself what it is that he is really trying to accomplish, having made of himself, on the surface at least so visibly unelectable.
As much as I am purely disposed to dislike (the most pleasant word I shall use) Mister Ailes and the festering gumboil that he calls a “network.” He and I are in this much of agreement.
Mister Dump cannot win.
But what sane or rational man wants the Presidency and its burdens when you have “all the money in the world?”
So, what is Dump’s true objective, and should the media be helping him to attain it with such vigour?

If the current trend continues Trump will have accomplished something that has never been done before. He will have galvanized Latinos to vote in large numbers. That is very bad for Republicans at all levels. They count on Latinos sitting at home.

Precisely. The more Trump attacks Latinos, the more whites love him. And with more Voter Purges and Voter ID laws taking effect in 2016 to keep Latinos, African-Americans, poor, elderly and disabled from voting, the more likely Republicans will continue to win.

NBC Announces Cancellation of SNL

New York (AP) - A glum Lorne Michaels announced this morning that Saturday Night Live will not return for the fall 2015 season. Citing the fact that his writers and performers could not possibly top the hilarious antics of Donald Trump, Michaels stated the “We are throwing in the towel.” “Look we had a great run, 40 great seasons, but now if we try to do some satire of Trump or Cruz or Jindal, well people will think they have tuned in to Fox or CNN by mistake.”

Trump opened his mouth and what passes for news media in this country has given him all the platform he needs. It ain’t rocket science. America, land of the freaks, home of the depraved.

How much you wanna bet he was let back in once someone from the campaign realized who Ramos was and just how colossusly Trump had fucked up?

I mean, who could have predicted that Trump’s “Fuck You, Loser” campaign message would just charm the pants off of everyone in the room?

After that kerfuffle, I have a suspicion that even Texas became a bluish-purple yesterday…and when that happens, the Republican Party is toast nationally.

When one looks back in history to that special moment when the GOP’s fate was sealed with the Latino community, it may well begin with: “Go back to Univision.”

Lindsey ‘Butchmeup’ Graham was correct: “If Trump is the nominee, ‘That’s the end of the Republican Party.’”

The “go back to Univision” moment was the latest in a worrisome trend for Republicans. The RNC’s autopsy report of the 2012 campaign said, “If Hispanic Americans perceive that a GOP nominee or candidate does not want them in the United States (i.e. self-deportation), they will not pay attention to our next sentence.”

This is nothing more than the updated thesaurus of Republican race-baiting electioneering that began with Nixon’s Southern Strategy. As Lee Atwater, the late progenitor of the “Willie Horton” campaign ad for George HW Bush’s campaign infamously said of the Nixonian Southern Strategy (which actually had a thesaurus to make sure that all the dog-whistle words were included in the campaign), “It was the ‘how to’ on saying N****r without saying Nigger.” Well, Trump is playing the same card right out of that book only his is a ‘how to’ for saying Wetback without saying Wetback.

Outstanding post. I cannot add to that, so, with regard to what you say, I will STFU.

I will comment on this issue further down the thread.

Thanks, BSD…

They also care about who out and out hates them, even if they lean conservative on other issues. The nativism on display by the Republican base is also affecting the Asian & Muslim voters views of Republicans, too.

Trump’s racism is front and center. He don’t need no dog whistle, his snarl says it all.

I didn’t know that, but it does raise the question of how his followers don’t see that he’s essentially a spoiled, tantrum-throwing child. God knows they’re not sophisticated politically, but you don’t have to be to know pathological immaturity when you see it.

The absolute crystal clear core of all this is: Trump’s true fanatical Baggerlandia followers don’t care and they will stick with him to the end. They fully are convinced: All Hispanics are here illegally; All African Americans are on welfare; Crime is at an all time high; America has a traitorous leader and really hates this country; The military has been severely harmed…and on and on ad nauseum.

This gaggle of ‘true believers’ have been cultivated and nurtured by the Republicans, FOX and the Right Wingnuttery radio and TV gasbags…and their creation threatens to destroy their national party. And to that, I say, “Good riddance to bad trash.” Trump is the ID, the beastial collective conscience of the GOP that would, if it were possible, support ethic cleansing…so…Republicans___DEAL WITH IT!

BTW: GOP! The Donald is YOUR corndog…Enjoy!

Sorry! It was inevitable and I just came across the picture. rotfl

Will it?

While Donald Trump’s campaign has taken the GOP’s Latino problems to new heights, those problems have existed for some time now. It has hurt in the last two Presidential elections, but not in midterm or other non-Presidential elections. And as long as Republicans continue to do well in midterm elections (which is when most states’ governorships and state legislatures, as well as all the U.S. House seats and 30+ U.S. Senate seats are up for grabs), the GOP will continue to have electoral success. It may have trouble winning the Presidency again in the near term, but it will be able to control Congress and state governments, which will greatly mitigate the effect of losing the Presidency.

There is so much wrong with this on so many levels.

It’s never been “his” country unless he was native American.

And if you accept that it is in fact all of do belong in this melting pot (I do) then this America belongs to all of us, not him and the narrow view he holds.

Add into it it’s an imaginary country he’s dreaming of. The 1950’s land of milk and honey, when everyone knew their place and jobs were great and well paid (for white men) and crime was low, women stayed home with their babies, etc. A Happy Days or Leave it to Beaver vision of America, crafted by Hollywood.

And imagine that 18 year old taking his American birth certificate down to the voter registration office and registering. Then imagine that 18 year old registered voter stops by the local Democratic Party office and volunteers to canvass in the next local election, and the next statewide election, and the next national election. That is what democracy looks like. If the Dems ever needed an issue to motivate younger people to get out and vote, this is it.

The rest of republicans are content to dog whistle while The Donald plays the fucking tuba

Doesn’t matter. His poll numbers reflect that a good portion of Republicans love the sound of the tuba and there is no escaping that. It reflects poorly on the brand.
