Discussion: How Did Sebastian Gorka Go From The Anti-Muslim Fringe To White House Aide?

God almighty.

Covering one’s head is common and non-discriminatory. men and women do it. Modesty in appearance as a cultural/religious value is very reasonable and respectable. A “burqa” is entirely about misogyny, not religion. I am sure some women will tell you they choose to wear it. I don’t believe it.

The country is being run by goons out of the White House
and not one gosh-darn-dammit-to-hell Republican is doing a fucking thing about it.

That’s where this dreck keeps coming from.

If one were looking for a concise description, embarrassing and dangerous pretty well sums up everything you need to know about Trump and his administration.

I did but my damned computer took some literary license again!

I am a non-Christian (agnostic) immigrant and I agree with you.

Gorka took one look at Trump and thought, wow, I can lead that blithering idiot around by his vanity and ego and he’ll love me forever.

Is he from Russia somewhere? He’s got the look

Oh happy crap
’ He’s not someone whose work one needs to know to be conversant in these issues’ and ‘he is not in the reasonable mainstream’. WTH is happening to our country???

Terrorism aside, gender-segregated neighbourhoods are a reality in Muslim-dominated areas of France. I have experienced it myself.

Gorka kryptonite

In America no one is forced to do anything. Anyone in a burqa who wants out of it can do it here. She’ll get all the help she needs - there are organizations and safe houses for abused women all over the country.

You don’t have to believe anything - it shouldn’t be up to you. It’s none of your business essentially.

It doesn’t do to forget what a vast opportunity for grifters was opened up when princelings like Charles Koch and Richard Mellon Scaife decided, many decades ago, to dedicate their trust funds and their petulant egos to the task of breaking the American democracy.

Every con artist with a gift of gab and a couple of courses in Slavic Studies (or whatever) under his belt instantly recognized the sweet, sweet smell of those billionaire bucks–they came to life at the scent, like dogs following the butcher’s van.

From the kiddies at National Review Online to the Breitbart set and James O’Keefe to this creature Gorka and the other faux scholars of the Great Grift, the old Nixon era caveat still applies: “follow the money.”

I fully expected to see Trump University listed under his ‘short-term professorships’. 'Cuz 45 only picks the best.

And this:

His book “is like reading a bad high school student’s paper that has been cribbed together from Wikipedia, and that’s with all due respect to Wikipedia,” Safi said.

“Frankly it is not only embarrassing, it is dangerous that someone like this has the ear of the President."<

That is an academic quality burn.

We are as divided and closer to civil war than we have been since 1860, agreed. Geographically it would be different. We are politically more integrated, if you look at the electoral map. The heartland is mainly red with pockets of blue, the coasts are the opposite. If we could get the liberals out of the red states, a blockade and containment might be possible. Barring that, this next civil war, if it comes, will be more like the war that ended Yugoslavia.

Another difference is that it will in many cases be hard to tell who is who. Here in Maine, I know quite a few gun totin’ liberal rednecks (me included) who can pass as Trumpanzees as long as they keep their mouths shut.

Trump uses Orban’s playbook, so why wouldn’t he go to the source? If you look at how the right weaseled out of the damage done by austerity, its faux-economics theory post Great Recession, Orban was the first to succeed. Here’s the thing about the right – they never take responsibility for anything. And as soon as accountablility gets a bit too close, they come up with a new theory. The US is much farther down the road to Putin’s Russia that it cares to admit, but the impunity of the Trump administration should at least be treated as a marker.

I agree with you. We are not as politically divided as we were when W was president - there was a pretty close to even divide then.

Much less so now - it’s been moving our way. And I agree about the Balkanization of America - up to a point. The difference here is that we all identify strongly as Americans. Yugoslavia was a group of countries who don’t get along with each other, which is true here, but those countries didn’t identify as Yugoslavian, and the people definitely did not consider themselves Yugoslavian - they were still Croatian (Roman Catholics), Serbian (Eastern Orthodox and bitterly opposed to Roman Catholicism,) Bosnian, etc.

We are all still Americans.

You know it’s crazy and unconstitutional when it’s a secret. Remember how Trump would not tell anyone of his ‘plan’ to beat terrorism. There is a reason for their secrets
they’re crazy and unconstitutional. We need to know so we can IMPEACH STUPID
