“…all 10 GIFs included in the press release depicted white characters or celebrities.”
This really presents an inaccurate picture of what many people feel, no matter their race, ethnicity or heritage. For instance, my buddy Hidalgo DOES NOT want things made any easier for his mother-in-law to sneak across the border and stay here.
Notice how none of the GIFs are specific to the message? It’s because they couldn’t even be bothered to make their own, and just lifted these from what are likely random sources. And it’s not just “white people”. It’s attractive white women, and…Steve Carell, for some reason. Did they hire a middle-schooler to put this together?
My God! We’re a world superpower and this is the shit pumped out by people we’ve elected to run the country?
The House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday issued a press release filled with GIFs of celebrities like Jennifer Lawrence and Britney Spears to promote a Republican-sponsored immigration bill.
I don’t suppose it is even worth asking if GOP bothered to ask permission to use these people’s likenesses or to license the movie stills/photos used for this stunt? I mean they certainly never seem to bother asking musicians permissions before using their songs, so I wouldn’t think they would trouble themselves with actors and photographers.
I tend to think so too. I have no doubt they got calls from angry agents tho. Next up, the celebs will (maybe) make a public statement repudiating their implied support for the GOP’s/Teatrolls’ anti-immigration bill.
“Right now, one single person – the President of the United States – can turn off the enforcement of our immigration laws unilaterally. For real,” the press release read
So, that’s why we’re promoting this bill that has no chance of making it through the Senate, and even if by some miracle it did make it out of the Senate, the president would immediately and gleefully veto it. Still, we’re going to waste time and your tax dollars promoting a bill that has absolutely no chance of ever becoming a law.
See, that was my gut reaction.
(R)s never have respect for intellectual property.
One thing if you’re an individual creating a meme using an image for parody/satirical intent.
But if you put this sh^t out in an official press release?
You better be paying royalties or asking for permission-to-use in writing.
I guess when you know you’re a bunch of thieving assh^les?
What’s the diff being an assh^le one more time?
They are masters at capitalizing on the fear that they create. They are masters at making everyone who listens to them feel better than “others.” And then they top it off with making these fearful, selfish assholes hate those “others” for being “moochers,” without every acknowledging that it is their very own group that is on the take.
Yes they are crazy, yes they are selfish and evil, but they also get voted into office; not just the Senate and the House, but also state legislatures and governorships. I wish they were in their death throes, but I don’t see any evidence of it.
