Discussion: House Republicans Jockey To Succeed Eric Cantor

I am sure we will be hearing from Ted Cruz soon who will be giving his blessing who to pick. Isn’t he the unofficial speaker of the house? If it is someone from Texas who replaces Cantor we will know for sure that Ted Cruz has taken over the house.

I agree with you. Choosing McCarthy just makes too much sense. And besides, as Sahil said, he’s carrying Cantor taint. shudder…

Hensarling will usher in a new era of total foolishness and recor breaking do-nothingness in the House and very soon thereafter, hand the gavel back to Nancy.

I’m pretty sure that they will go with Cantor’s preference and elevate McCarthy so that Cantor can shuffle off the stage and they can get back to the job of “winning” elections in November.

If nothing else, most of the GOP are good at following orders. It’s the TP splinter-group who are the cat-herders nightmare.

True dat. No one has ever done more amnesty than St. Ronnie.

I’m looking at you Obama.

So now these fools have to pick what’s behind Door #1, Door #2, or Door #3. Oh, for the love of Monty Hall…
Can we at least ask them to get dressed up in silly costumes first before picking their leader?

Patience.
Oh, the contortions they’ll twist themselves into for the prize.

Louie, Louie… we gotta’ go…

But hopefully not still in office.

As a Californian, I would like to apologize in advance for McCarthy.

Which makes him unsurpassable as House Majority Leader ®.

Maybe Louis converted them all?

Its foolish for him to even try to go after Majority Leader if his ambitions are on the Speaker position. That would mean replacing Cantor as Majority Leader in July…then replacing the Majority Leader again in January…assuming Hensarling can win the Speaker.

The smart move would be to back someone and buy some loyalty. So he will go for Majority Leader himself instead.

And its the TP splinter group who is going to stick a wrench into the works this time, too.

This is a golden opportunity for them to seize control of the GOP, despite being in the distinct minority. Just getting the Majority position would be a prize, but they are going to go after Boehner right after.

That’s one phrase I never, ever associated with Gingrey…

Here’s hoping the candidate will be out of a job soon.

That was what Mark Levin was railing about earlier tonight as he slimed McCarthy as “more of the same” and “like Cantor, but not as smart!” McCarthy’s next in line, so according to the hierarchy, the Leader slot should be his, no matter how much Levin and the TP screams that “a constitutional conservative” should be in the leadership. That leaves McCarthy’s Whip slot open, but McMorris Rodgers has already taken herself out of the running for any other position, and there’s no way Agent Orange will give the Whip to anyone who won’t do as he’s told.

I can’t handle that much pop corn

The Rules Committee in the House doesn’t do what most people would assume a committee with that name does. The Committee is in charge of determining under what “rule” bills will come to the floor. As such, it is one of the most powerful committees and is often described as “an arm of the leadership” and as the “traffic cop of Congress.” A “rule” is a simple resolution of the House of Representatives, usually reported by the Committee, to permit the immediate consideration of a legislative measure, notwithstanding the usual order of business, and to prescribe conditions for its debate and amendment.

In simpler words, it decides what bills make move forward and the conditions for debate on it.
