Let’s just go with conspiring with hostile foreign power. Conspiracy/treason puts you in prison - well, maybe. We’ll see. The whole Republican congress seems to be jumping on the “not a problem” bandwagon.

One theory is that the Russians didn’t just hack the Democrats in 2016, they got the Republicans too. But, instead of publicly releasing the Republican dirt (which unlike the Democrat stuff really was dirt and not just impolitic or embarrassing), the Russians held back the Republican kompromat to use to squeeze individual Republicans.

So, I’m guessing this guy has got something funny in his past that got put into writing …
