Discussion: House Passes Bill To Bar Federal Funds For Abortion Coverage

The measure, which passed 238-183, would also block tax credits for some people and businesses buying abortion coverage under former President Barack Obama’s health care law.

Depending on how folks voted, at least 10 Democrats just asked to get primaried.

If Trump signs this bill into law there won’t be any grand proclamations. No doubt that Trump’s personal history with abortion is complicated. I can imagine it could get ugly.

True

But one of the major issues from that march, was about reproductive rights.

Either there is a ticked off electorate or everyone is cool

It just goes to show you that the Republicans stand by their small federal government philosophy. They also, with this vote reaffirmed their commitment to keeping government out of the individual decisions of the people.

Way to go boys, you are remaining true to your “hypocritical oath.”

A sound business decision on your part.

There is no evidence that the rule, known as the “Mexico City policy” or “global gag rule,” has been effective in reducing the number of overseas abortions performed under any administration. But research suggests that the ban can, in fact, have the opposite, effect of increasing the number of unsafe or illegal abortion procedures.

Why Trump froze funding to overseas groups that ‘promote’ abortion.

“respect for weak and vulnerable children in the womb,”

Once out, you are all on your own.

Feels like some payback for the Women’s March which was a LOT BIGGER than the inauguration turn out.

“Pro-life Americans struggle for the day when abortion violence will be replaced by compassion and empathy for women and respect for weak and vulnerable children in the womb,”

Argggh! The whole “abortion is anti woman” anti-choice talking point makes me see red. Empathy and compassion for women is letting women make decisions for themselves, just like men do.

Saw some op-ed piece on CNN from a “prolife feminist” (I’m a guy, and consider myself a feminist, but don’t pretend to be extremely knowledgeable about the details of feminist philosophy, so I’ll ask this instead of stating it as fact: isn’t this an oxymoron?) complaining about being disinvited to last weekend’s woman’s march. And she went on and on and on for paragraphs with what was basically the same argument this jackass is using.

And… I couldn’t finish it. I try to absorb viewpoints from the other side (if only to know what fuckery they’re about to get up to next), but when they’re so stupid and… perniciously vapid… I just can’t can’t even read their drivel.

It might be a good idea to shift our gaze away from trump’s nonsense for a bit and start looking closer at what Ryan is doing in the House. Ryan must be happy that tump is such a media whore causing everyone to chase his squirrels while Ryan stays well below the radar.

I think that’s the plan.

I mean Trump has likely paid for some and coerced some. It would be awkward for him to denigrate abortion in a victory speech prohibiting it for poor women.

The anti-abortion people were at the March in Santa Ana, California with their gruesome photos. Two young women holding them for all to see.

Is that an old photo or is Mean Jean Schmidt back in Washington?

Just let me know when to stop thanking the berniebots.

Looks like 2 Dems voted ‘Aye’ and I counted 7 for ‘No Vote’.

This is one of the reasons I’m not a big fan of a single-payer system. It’s bad enough with the current government regulation of the credits and subsidies for insurance. Can you imagine what it will be like to have Republicans micro-manage reproductive health coverage for a completely government-run health system?

I’d like to know how Scott DesJarlais voted.
